Do you think it's important to write abs val x after taking the square root of both sides? I don't feel comfortable letting students skip that step.

Man I was measuring some material at work today and I realized I had an imaginary number in my measurement.

I have the roots of x^3 -6^2 +18x -40: -4, 1 +/- 3i... but I don't know how to translate 1 plus/minus 3i into a factor form for online homework. (x-1-3i) and (x-1+3i) didn't work. (x-(1-3i)) (x-(1+3i)) didn't work. Nobody shows the factored form of the complex solution from quadratic formula.
