a couple of things I did to stop.
1) I placed a hand written note in my wallet from a session where I lost money and it says "Do not gamble, you will lose, you have not gained money from doing it. As I write this message I've just lost £100 - You can do this" I always look at the note before I pulled money out of my wallet to put into a machine.

2) Pin pointed what the triggers were. Which was drinking and going in two specific bars and avoided those places. I only felt comfortable gambling there, so it was easy for me to avoid those places since I only drank there. instead I buy some alcohol from the shop and just drink at home.

3)Wrote a diary - sounds kind of corny but if you look back at how you were/are struggling with the outcome for gambling due to lack of funds or mental health problems it can empower you to read your past experiences are realise just how bad they were and stop you from making another mistake.

Remember you are powerful enough to stop and it's OKAY to ask for help. You got this :)

Yes im lonley have had huge depression .. i met people at casinos but was a bad enviroment because they just ask for money most of the time.. and to hype me up in bets i lost alot of money for 4 years ive spent now trying to get my life back on track hopefully i can find some new friends and find ways to fill the void

Thank you so much for this video! I started online gambling since I was around 15 under my parents names without them knowing. I have recently turned 18 and have lost around £6k now in total from gambling (£4k last month). I know it hasn’t been a long time since I last placed a bet but I have completely given up on it and thinking about it makes me sick/ depressed now. I remember when I was 16 and lost a couple hundred of pounds and at that time it seemed like so much money to me, but I just kept chasing losses until I got to my current situation I am at now. Although, the amount of I’ve lost is significant at this current time I hope to get a lesson out of this and quit for good while also telling others about how bad gambling is.

I was able to make but around 25k from running several reselling businesses this year (mainly graphics cards at the start of 2021), so the losses are more bearable. In the long term, assuming I never gamble again, the loss is quite insignificant considering people spend so much money on smoking and drug or gambling at much higher stakes and having an addiction if I become wealthy.

So, although I made a mistake which has had a big impact on me it could have/ could end up much worse.

Well I just gamble all my salary. All I all I've gambled about R38 000 in total. I feel very bad and I'm disappointed in myself for real. I don't know what to do. I don't have money for rent, transportation and food. I hate myself at this moment. The pain I'm feeling is too much for me.

Hi, im 20yo, been gambling for years first match betting, then started playing roulette, and all the other cazino games. I slipped up a couple of times in my life and got into a debt witch was hard to pay off, but got payed off eventually. After that i totally stoped gambling for 7 months. But after the first time i played a ticket, i got getting sucked back into gambling and started playing all the other games again. Just goes to show you can never think you defeated the problem and think now you can gamble for pocket change and fun, if you stop for some time, if you just put a pound on a bet, you will start getting sucked in again.

hi john, what im doing right now is absurd and disgusts me. I am only 15 years old and it was twitch streams that got me started. As soon as i get money for food at school or go outside with my friends my bank account gets instantly wiped onto a online gambling site... i feel annoyed just saying this but even at my very young age i have lost over 5000 pounds... i am scared of telling my parents, i always tell my self i will never do it again and get very mad everytime i lose money. i have tried many things but i get addicted to things very easily because my mind is quite weak.
