Best way to refill a butane lighter or torch.

Don't waste your money on expensive butane gas. With the right adaptor, any propane tank can be used to refill your lighters and torches. I recommend those made out of plastic. The metal one looks better, but they are not. These are very hard to find tho. Look for "Airsoft Propane Filling Adapter ." Be aware that propane gas is more powerful than the Butane. You will have to lower the intensity of the lighter jet.

FOR THOSE CURIOUS. HE IS USING AN "AIRSOFT GREEN GAS PROPANE ADAPTER" same size hole!!! We use them playing airsoft for our gas powered guns, propane is cheaper than special airsoft gas.

This is extremely dangerous as propane is stored at much higher pressures than butane. Filling a butane torch with propane can lead to a fire or explosion.

Seriously, where did you get these screw-on tips?

The pressure difference is not safe. If you using a steel high dollar butane torch its a bit more safe, but I wouldn't make this common practice. Different fuels exist for a reason.

This is not a good idea, lighter fuels are a blend of butane and other higher boiling point hydrocarbons with vapor pressures of about 30-50psi at room temperature, the fuel on those canisters is almost pure propane which has a vapor pressure of about 135psi at room temperature and almost 200psi at body temperature so your lighter might leak or explode, also the oxygen to fuel ratios are slightly different as well so it might not work properly. You ain't cheating the system you are endangering yourself and others.

For all of you people with your smart ass remarks I've been paying over $7 a can for calibri fluid butane and lasting me about a week on a poor working man's budget is what I've stupidly been doing for a long time.and those of you who are bragging about your expensive lighters which instantly makes you a douche anyways who the hell buys a $2, 000 lighter unless you're smoking $500 cigars. I just accidentally discovered this while filling up my green gas airsoft, I'm using it with a $20 torch cigar lighter and it works fantastic. I don't know why more people aren't talking about this this is literally going to save me many hundreds of dollars a year

As from a well trained/educated manufacturing engineer, it looks like the yellow/tan colored adapter was manufactured by a typically available 3-D printer. Maybe that's the only single way for us to create this wonderful plastic adapter. The only thing is for someone in power to release a link to the proper program.

You're gonna get someone maimed or worse. Especially with those pen torches. I've had butane blow the seal on those so many times and propane is at a higher resting pressure

Just use the tips to come with a butane can use the propane tank to fill the butane can and then use the butane can to fill your lighters yes the pressure is higher but I've only had a crack one lighter and it was a square body lighter round tanks seem to work fine

Idk man, I know butane refills all have propane anyways and I know theres a little butane in those smaller cylinders and they're a good 20 psi lower pressure than the stuff they fill BBQ tanks with, at least here, it's still a big difference between that propane and even an isobutane/propane mix camo gas. More than twice as much roughly

When using propane for butane lighters or torches, you only need to add small amounts

I dont understand this because butane is cheaper than propane.... If you want to show me butane canisters designed for lighters that are more expensive than propane that is because they are typically higher quality. You dont really want to use hardware store butane in a lighter anyway because it is not refined and will destroy your lighter. If you are just comparing the gases and price, however, you can get a large canister and get it filled with butane for cheaper than propane. But again, I bought a case of 12 canisters of 11x refined butane online for $90cad. This is enough butane for my lighters for probably the next 10-15 years. Not exactly something I worry about price wise. The lighters are the larger price and putting in stuff that will destroy them over time is a lot more expensive.

propane for butane lighters?? had no idea that would work, maybe for cheap lighters but not for the expensive ones where you might risk clogging it i mean how pure or refined is propane? not much i would think
