Holy sh*t you just blew my mind. I use a Qudelix 5K and prefer using my iPhone as the source so I can easily pivot from desktop to mobile listening but don't want to use bluetooth at my desk and sacrifice quality (or deal with the iPhone being tethered to my Qudelix via USB). This is an excellent middle ground AND I have some spare Pi 3's lying around. Thank you!!

I've been using PulseAudio for this, it works nicely even on an older Pi 3B

Not for Australia maate. A Raspberry Pi (only) will set you back $340 or thereabouts vs $130 for a WiiM Mini (Amazon Australia pricing). The WiiM Mini works straight out of the box, has a fantastic app and sounds great. It’s a no-brainer as the Yanks would say.

Have been discussed million of times in various channels. Its like back in 2017-18 when youtube videos were made on Pi based streamer. It's easier to find Wiim Mini then Pi4 these days. So welcome back to 2017

Use something else, not Balena Etcher. It has been found to serve first-party ads, and make numerous outbound connections, even ignoring the privacy settings it offers.
The official Raspberry Pi Imager is certainly good enough, so why use Balena?

Or you could just use VLC on any OS and stream, right? Not sure what use case this is for

With the makers of pi mysteriously never having stock now after saying they'd fix the issue. I think everyone is better off buying dedicated audio solutions. Btw that "fix" was supposed to happen about a year ago. Pretty sure they're just selling stock to companies directly cause hobbyists don't make them as much money.
