Dell Laptop Common Problems - Freezing, Start Up Error, Blue Screen

The facts:
Model: Dell Latitude CPx (H500GT?) (Latitude C Family).
Bios version: A14
Processor: Pentium III
Operating system: Windows XP (Professional)
Model No: PPX
Ref number: 99080
IC class: C ICES-3

The Issues:
1. My Dell computer does not start up properly: I will push the on-button and the green start-up / power light will come on, but the computer will not start. There will be no sound of the computer working. Then, the light will turn off a few seconds later. How or when I press the on-button makes no difference.

The error messages generally read:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Run a system diagnostic utility supplied by your hardware manufacturer. In particular, run a memory check, and check for faulty or mismatched memory. Try changing video adapters. Disable or remove any newly installed hardware and drivers. Disable or remove any newly installed software. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x0000007F (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Beginning dump of physical memory Dumping physical memory to disk: Ive also gotten the technical information: *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0C0000005, 0x7F4D9023, 0x79BDC700, 0x00000000).

3. Freezing up at random. Though, sometimes this seems to happen when the laptop is moved or touched, but not always.

4. On a few occasions, the laptop has restarted randomly.

What has NOT helped:
Reinstalling Windows XP (Professional).
Running Safe Mode.
Disk Defragmenting.
Cleaning
Uninstalling new software.

Don't worry pal, its just not the laptops that freeze and have these problems. I recently purchased a Studio XPS desktop and am having exactly the same problems you are and more - I will post a video shortly - good luck!

I have given up on PC's I am 53 years old, I have just purchased a MAC, trust me they are "fantastic"
30 seconds to start up, no virus, smooth, no noise.
The above video is why I switched "once you go Mac, you never go back"
Do not buy PC's!

ahh, wait, now after reviewing the 'what has NOT helped:' list in vid details, and the BSOD message on that link you gave, it looks like you have some bad RAM... have you recently upgraded the memory? if not try taking out one of the sticks (assuming it has 2 inside it)

I have the same problem I've had it for almost a year and I've tested the hard drive and it works fine, I've put in another hard drive same problem.. Ive done a complete factory reset and and seems to fix it... Upon getting an update for a recent service pack from Microsoft the problem started again, what I'm going to try this time is to do a factory reset one more time and turn off the automatic updates... I'll re post if I see any improvement

Yes, but even for your target audience, if they can't tell what's on the screen, what good is it?

I have considered the partner thing. I will be sending you a message. Wish I could help you on the PC problem. When my HP died I gave up on windows and bought a Mac.

Sounds like a dying HITACHI hard drive, right? DELL PC's and laptops were equipped with IBM hard drives during a long time. They didn't stop dying en masse like mayflies!

Best thing to do: Get a SAMSUNG hard drive!

yeah, dont do magnets, unless you never want to even USE the hard drive/other internal components again :P
