My husband always says “why are you trying to hide everything” 😂 cause it’s

The only open shelving that is allowed is bookcases full of books, books and more books.

You're right Nick, it creates a clutter problem. Most folks don't have ample storage.

I feel the complete opposite. If stuff goes in storage I don't know where it is, I can't find it when I need it, out of sight out of mind. I want everything visible but in its right place.

Open Shelving is a dusting/grease/dirt nightmare. Agree 100%

Oh dear. One year my house was chosen for a tour of homes for a charity. After I got over being super flattered, I had the worst anxiety for months leading up to the event. I stored EVERYTHING away. I never could find some of my things until we moved a few years later. Ugh!

I don't know if it's just me, but I like the "organized clutter" look. Maybe don't display your lint rollers or tampons, but display those magazines and books and candles and everything cool that you own.

Oooo, that's definitely a good answer. But imo, an even bigger mistake is furniture that doesn't fit the space. You'll always be fighting a losing battle.

As we are paring down our stuff…
If it doesn’t have a “home” or good place we can store it OR nice enough to display, then it’s going bye bye.

YES! I used to have so many open storage units and together with my ex's clutter tendencies, and these would put my brain in overdrive. Having a clean and organized home has done wonders for my depression.

I think that's really good point that huge amount of things actually belongs inside of cabinets or some other storage place where you can't see them. But personally I like my books where i can see them...but always neatly in bookshelves. Not spread on table, nightstand and every cabinet in house like certain family members of mine do it.

Thank goodness someone finally said that 😅

The issue is that this is impossible with some things when it comes to ADHD.

I used to have all our family’s supplement/vitamins sitting in a row along the back kitchen counter near the sink. I still keep them out BUT, they’re all in a nice little container that I can put away when friends stop by.

I actually bought a trinket box that looks like a stack of books - I drilled a small hole into it and put my Fire Cube inside, so it looks more like it belongs on my fireplace mantle, and intend to do the same with the case...thing for my surge protector. The box my Fire Cube is in is also large enough to hold my remotes, so that's a win/win

This is true! I currently use my ikea kallax as tv stand and book stand. I thought it would spruce it up if i have those kallax boxes as bottom row. Nope, the books and tv together still look odd. I cannot wait to afford a closed tv stand.

I bought a beautiful tv stand but the glass storage doors were clear. It made the room look so messy! I got peel and stick frosted glass film and used it on the doors and wow it looks so much better! Def a good cheap fix if you have things to hide.

I have one source for all my home design, Nick. Thanks for the Insight as always

Storage is my middle name, but my husband's middle name is "where is hid it again".😂
