It is impossible it is to focus positively when you have something that you are trying to avoid (especially strong fear or other strong negative emotion). When we are feeling strong negative emotion, we are feeling desperate. You always get that desperate feeling when you are trying to get away from something and go towards something else. And obviously, any time we're trying to get away from something, we are resisting it and therefore focusing upon in in a subconscious way. Whatever we resist persists. If we would quit resisting it, it would cease to exist. And so, there is only one option, to positively embrace the negative emotion.

I watched a recent Abraham-Hicks workshop where Abraham (AGAIN) told someone to "change the subject and focus on something that feels better" when they are in resistance. According to Abraham, anything you are focusing on (i.e. negative emotion) will continue to get bigger simply due to law of attraction. I've learned from personal experience and being a former "devout" follower of their teachings that this does not work. I experienced severe grief years ago, and this "positive focus" only led me to developing a disease and other complications in my life. It wasn't until I finally allowed myself to acknowledge the "awfulness" of how I really felt that my feelings of grief and anger loosened its grip on me. Teal is right, what we resist really does PERSIST.

Quick story
After 3 days of constant panic, panic attacks and fear of fear itself, i started to accept anxiety as my best friend, a friend who is going to stay with me forever. Then i relaxed completly and started to laugh. That told me a lot about acceptance. I hope it tells you too

I just relate so much to her point.  It took me a long time to really appreciate what she is trying to share. Having a bad day doesn't make you a bad person. It's how you handle that bad day. It's letting yourself feel it, not be guilty you feel it, and move on from it. It takes practice but being able to learn from the bad and let go of it is such a weight off your shoulders.

Spot on advice. Society and conditioning makes us think that we shouldn’t be having negative emotions. For example look at the thousands of ‘self help’ programmed to GET RID of anxiety, emotions are a human right and should be embraced as they are indeed messengers, welcome them all, each have something to say..

She's right, this really can save your life. An older friend who's been on the healing path longer than me gave me this exact advice this year. To not only sit in the emotion but form a relationship with it. At the time I felt like he may as well tell me to take off a spacesuit and get sucked out to space. I recovered from BPD 3yrs ago, and long before that I'd tried all the manifesting self-help positivity techniques too. So I was terrified of total engulfment of the emotion, and not being able to snap out of it and go crazy. But I tried it a bit at a time, then gradually longer and longer. It's been beyond transformational. My friendships and connections are so much deeper, I'm less scared of life, and even during some extremely painful life experiences over the past month I've felt like I'm on a raft. It's next-level. I highly recommend it! :)

I've re-watched this video 100 times and every time it helps me. I'm so used to resisting my negative emotions that I think I'll keep watching this video 100 more times to re-learn this lesson. Ly all :)

In The Book of Secrets OSHO mentions a technique like this.  When negative emotions arise just observe them.  Do not fight them or become involved with them.  This will cause the emotion to subside but without repressing it.  As the emotion subsides follow it down to where it came from.

Sometimes when I practice positive thinking all day all of a sudden I feel like crying without a reason (I know there is a reason which I'm not yet aware of). I used to think it's a bad thing, that I'm doing something wrong but you helped me change my attitude towards negative emotions. I don't need to beat myself up for experiencing low vibrations anymore. Thank you.
