In 2020, Heym and other psychologists at the Nottingham Trent University conducted a study on 991 participants and found nearly 20% would meet the classification of what they have coined the “Dark Empath”.

As a dark empath, i can say its dangerous when the dark empath is highly intelligent.

Intelligence plays a big part in masking it.
Also, they have triggers, but a highly intelligent empath is very patient.

Dark Empaths know exactly what to say to someone and at what time . They are not even passive aggressive . They may be manipulating you in such a charming tone and their body language would be so flawless that you will feel at ease . But what separates them from Psychopaths is that - " They always weigh whether what they want is more important than playing with someone's life " . They understand it too well because they don't want to be treated that same way . They unlike psychopaths never do it for thrill or fun . Most importantly they do sometimes cry when alone for manipulating a person whom they perceived as Kind/Nice even after they have got what they want but they lie to themselves that they did it for greater good and you must do that to live in this world . They may not be exactly crying for the person but they may view it to be unfair if someone ever did it to them so the image never leaves their head . They can completely blend in when with people without forcing/faking . Unlike Psychopaths and HF Sociopaths they are very passionate people esp. about " dark art ", " Classical music ", and various forms of Art that may speak to soul of a person or represent complexities of life.

Finally for Dark Empaths people are not "Objects" and they may get very very sad if they saw something "unfair" and will be ready to help. They are super charming and even attractive ( most likely ) . They unlike Psychopaths are likely to believe in Spirituality too .

You become a victim of a dark empath when you don't want to see the "dark" behavior and only want to see the empathic behavior. For instance: he stands up for you, but is not nice to a friend of yours. Don't excuse that behavior. It is difficult to understand that a person can have both sides but in the end you will see that the dark side gets the upper hand. From my own internal understanding, a dark empath is someone you would find relating themselves strongly to this hybrid personality type. 1) because they're emotionally intelligent enough to know they're not normal, hence they are here looking for answers (empath), and 2) they like the sexy name and virtuous attributes associated with the dark aspect, it strokes their ego's insatiable need for validation and assurance (dark)
