I Am Shauna Rae follows Shauna as she navigates the extraordinary challenge of trying to live a normal adult life despite her appearance. Diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer at six months old, Shauna’s treatment allowed for remission, but resulted in a side effect no one predicted – she stopped growing. The chemotherapy made her pituitary gland almost dormant, leaving Shauna with a childlike appearance and standing at only 3 feet and 10 inches tall-- the average size of an 8-year-old. Except, Shauna is 22.

For the first time, I actually agree with her. She cannot physically reach the drink and its embarrassing. If I was in that situation I would feel bad that everyone is looking at me. They should have given her a chair to sit in or something.

Why on earth would none of the friends find this woman a bar stool or a chair to stand on? I think she should have ordered the drink because I imagine people are staring because they think adults are serving drinks to a child. If she showed her ID and was served everyone would realize she's an adult and a little person. I feel for her because her condition really does give the impression that she's a small child, voice included, but the party wasn't all about her. A few small considerations from friends might have helped.

Her parents contributed so deeply to how she's treated in the world. She's more than just a littler person she very literally has the body of a child. They encouraged her to behave like on and that makes it a lot more difficult for her. If she had a mature energy, we'd all be less likely to see her alike a child. I think her sister is just trying to encourage her to assert herself like an adult.

If you can't physically reach an object; no amount of pushing you out of your comfort zone is going to magically lower a bar or raise the floor. That "take a drink" moment reflected an unbelievable level of Tara's ignorance at best and psychological abuse at worst. Good job, S., for sticking up for yourself! It's not about getting sympathy; there's no way for you to reach it!
