The N64 has 2 different expansion ports - 1 on top & 1 on bottom
The top is most widely used for RAM expansions while the bottom is for the 64DD addon

Of course, in order to play the 64DD, the ram expansion pak, which initially came with it, had to be used. The ram expansion pak was the only thing from the Nintendo 64 add-on to survive outside of Japan.
