The history behind the expansion pack for the N64 is pretty funny. Did you have one back in the day?

That is the original jumper pak. It was just missing the sticker. Without some form of jumper pack in the system, original or expansion, the console won’t boot.

You don't want to use the lid because you don't want to scratch it, but you will use a butter knife and risk scratching the console...lol. Make it make sense.

I remember that sticker. I have an expansion pack. I bought it after the fact many years later for Perfect Dark and it makes pod racer better. I think I paid $25 for it.

How could I forget getting the jumper pack :)? I had to wait so long to save up, find, learn, and buy the jumper pack and majors mask for N64 back when I was younger

I just found an n64 in my crawlspace/attic today which has probably been sitting down there for 20+ years. Never have used one before but I notice that it’s in near perfect condition with no scratches or marks. It also has that sticker on it still. However, the thing was sitting in its travel case and to my sadness my parents had sold all 4 controllers at a yard sale just 10 years ago because they found them laying on the floor in the crawlspace/attic!

Says do not remove, meaning it’s needed for gameplay. All original releases came without expansion.

Funny thing is if you plug that thing backwards you will blow a fuse in the power supply!!

Got it for Christmas, never had the original.. came with the expansion pack only.. donkey Kong 64 edition

Well, What I remember is that when you buy the expansion pack, it comes with a designated "lever" to remove it.

Yep! I don't remember the sticker but that was almost 25 years ago I still have the removal tool!

I am very new to collecting, so I could definitely be wrong, but I heard that the Nintendo Expansion Pak was compatible with over 60 games

I purposely got a OEM jumper pak upgrade just for Zelda: Majora's Mask. I remember being leery of off brands. Supposedly they would get too hot causing the N64 to freeze or crash. I purchased mine new in 1999 and it's still going strong 24 years later!

Some strange info about the expansion pack. I bought an offbrand Pelican Expansion pack it sticks up from the console and has these wings that stick up from it so you can grasp it to remove. I played Super Mario Kart 64 and on my nephews console with a name brand expansion pack like you have in the video and I swear the AI that you play against is not as difficult as it was on my console with the Pelican EP. It should not make sense but my brother and I thought it was pretty noticeable. Same game cartridge btw. When we took it back to my house the AI were as usual on crack and very much more aggressive, caught up faster.

It just says that so people who don't know anything about booting a n64 console don't remove it and wonder why it doesn't work. Either the jumper or the expansion have to be in there to be able to boot the console. So more for the consumer who is clueless not for the collector or the avid gamer.

Yeah, I remember, I bought one recently for those games that do benefit from it. I'm actually playing Shadowman 64 at this moment.

I removed mine yesterday. No such sticker told me I shouldn't. Rules were meant to be broken. Live life on the edge. Hi- yah!
If removing the jumper pack breaks the system don't do it guys.
