What is this expansion pak for the Nintendo 64?

I've never seen one that looks like this before. It looks more like the standard jumper pak that normally came in the console. Any thoughts on this?

I remember getting dk 64 with the expansion and a new controller when I was younger. Still to this day one of my favorite Christmas mornings..

Had one of these, i just remember perfect dark always crashing after 5-10 minutes of gameplay

You needed that red one to play perfect dark when it first came out. It helped with graphics

I remember getting the original expansion pack on it's own as a kid (circa 2000). There were some games that benefitted from it, either with a higher resolution, or added elements and details used within the world/maps. And two of the games I played mostdid benefit from it. Small improvements for sure by modern standards, but I appreciated it then, and still do.

I actually made my official one look like that. I still have my Hey You Pikachu N64 from my childhood. So I took the expansion pak apart and removed the attached lid, so that I could keep the blue expansion lid.

Back in 97 my brother had the original one on the 64. I couldn’t see any changes but honestly back then I was already in heaven just getting the chance to go play any game on the 64

It looks more like the initial pack that came with the system

Look for the ones made By Pelikan (The one in the video that says RAM EXPANSION seems to be a two chip one too)they actually have 2 ram chips instead of one, so they don0t break or overheat as the first party ones, look for those because are more durable, they tend to be the ones that protrude, they also have a better heatsink.

Oddly enough to me that's the only one I ever saw. Until today I thought they all looked like that. Ours was grey I believe.

Probably just a Jumper pak. Look under the vent and you should be able to see it's serial number. If it says NUS-008 then it is an original.

There was a video store i use to go to as a kid that would actually rent you an expansion pack if you got Donkey Kong or Majoras Mask. They wouldn't let you find out the hard way that you couldn't play it.
