Backblaze has a severe security issue imho. When creating a backup, data will be decrypted on Backblazes servers, then zipped, and then sent to the user. So data will exist in unencrypted format on their servers. I wonder why nobody addresses this.

Thanks for the review. Very insightful. Just purchased a 14 TB WD external drive for backup and it uses Acronis as the software for backing up. Then I have a 2nd 8T drive for storing video files I need regular occasional access to (sort of like my drive D:). This saves a LOT of space on my 1T C: drive. I'm planning to get iDrive for offsite backup to the cloud. It's not a matter of "if" your drive is going to crash, but WHEN...

I have been using Acronis for local system full backup for many years. They have NEVER failed me...ever.

This is Michael . It looks like IDrive is the best. Backblaze is worthless since it only does data files. That list of excluded files takes out EXE, dll, sys and many other files. Acronis is the best choice but it is priced ridiculously high and they are going to lose a huge potential customer base for ripping people off.

I'm so tired of Carbonite. I can't even find the files in my backup which are supposedly being backed up. They have little or no customer support.

I was using SpiderOak One for years, but with recent issues I am in the market for a new solution. I really want to like Backblaze but the fact that I can't select which folders I want backed up (I generally only want to backup specific folders on my main computer). It's surprisingly hard it find something that works how I want. I already have multiple layers of backups (Daily OS drive imaging to NAS with Macrium Reflect, backup specific folders from my main computer to my NAS with Duplicati, backup specific share on my NAS with Crashplan. Then I had SpiderOak One backing up specific folders on all my devices. So that's the part I'm looking to replace.

People keep giving me suggestions of Tresorit and Filen but these all seem like cloud storage not backup. I'm considering just using Duplicati and backing up to Backblze B2, but Duplicati can be unreliable.

Thanks for the great review. Am I missing something? From my research, Acronis can not be used when trying to restore to a completely new Mac in the case of hardware failure.

Can you share how you solved your upload speed problem. I’m having such issues with cloud storage. I purchased idrive. According to my speed test my upload speed is 20mbps. I have 900GB. According to my math that 12.5 hours. But I’m already in day 6 of uploading and still am only at 80%.

I would choose Acronis if they didn't force all the other bs on us or at least offered a BU only service. I don't need a nanny state telling me what is and is not a virus foraging through my files. What a shame.
