Mario Speedrunner Recreates Levels From Memory!

I've played the levels in the original Super Mario Bros. thousands of times. I should be able to remember exactly what they look like! Right? ...Right?

1-1: 67M-GS8-FHF
1-2: D00-MBR-RNG

This video is the easier levels, next week comes the harder ones 😳

Wanna know what would be a cool 1-1 remake? 1-1 except it's only the blocks you'd typically step on during a speedrun, all of the other blocks are removed

"I've played these levels a bunch"
that's definitely an understatement.

Pretty good for someone who's barely played the game!!

1-1 middle (the part no one remembers because they always take pipe)

I wonder how much I know from playing SMB35

Pretty good for a guy who plays SMB1 for like 5 minutes now and then

I'd have loved for you to do this in some sort of SMB1 editor tool to get the right physics. Then you could 've attempted to speedrun them as normal only to mess up because a block is two spaces to the right. Or potentially adapt on the spot, who knows. Sounds super fun to me, at least.

Isn't it amazing that you can play the same game 5 billion times and still not remember what it looks like.

Super Mario Bros. 35 may be gone but its influence lives on.

You blew my mind with the piranha plant in the pipe factoid. I was yelling at my screen "are you serious?"

I remember trying to do this as a young kid.
Then I realized I had no idea how much space there was in-between the start and the first goomba. Much harder than it seems.

In Vs. Super Mario Bros., that actually is a Koopa under the coin block

Really love the concept. Would love to see you do a series where you make the whole game!

I think it would be fun to watch you play Super Mario Crossover.

Just a tip (taken from Mayro’s SMB level recreations):
You can place a big goomba (or any other enemy that takes up two tiles horizontally) below the a small enemy and it will stack and the small enemy will be placed half a tile off-grid. If the big enemy is spawn blocked (by ground or other means), the small enemy will spawn in the same location, offset from the grid, without the big enemy.

I think some of the people in chat lied a few times. In the sub world of the first level you made, you could have made the pipe go all the way to the top as long as it wasn't touching the top of the editor. It was just fine how it was. Also you still could've made the blocks on the right bricks, as long as the part where you want the screen to stop moving was a hard block or ground block. A smaller thing for 1-2 is you could've made the pipe lead into another pipe, which brings you to the secret area with the blocks and the coins. considering you were just recreating the design of the level and not how the actually function, it doesn't totally matter but I thought I might as well let you know. great video as always though :) I couldn't've come close to recreating these as well as you because I haven't played smb1 very much. I'd be happy to see more smm2 content
