Rwanda Bill causing migrants to head for Ireland instead of UK, says Irish deputy PM

The threat of deportation to Rwanda is causing migrants to head for Ireland instead of the UK, Ireland's Deputy Prime Minister Micheál Martin has said.

The Rwanda Bill, which will see asylum seekers "entering the UK illegally" sent to the central African nation - regardless of the outcome of their application - was passed earlier this week, despite human rights concerns.

It comes amid increasing tension over immigration levels in Ireland, which is grappling with a housing crisis that has affected its own people as well as asylum seekers.

Why is it that the indigenous population are branded right wing or racist when they are concerned that their way of life is under threat due to mass migration, especially from parts of the world who don’t share their values. The Irish government has such disdain for the rights of Irish people, it’s going to lead to a backlash sooner or later.

Illegal immigrants come to Ireland and Britain, not only for the benefits but also because they know they will get full protection and priority over the indigenous population.

France could stop them but they don't want to be stuck with them.

Time to bring our troops back from those pointless border duties in the middle east and get them to protect our own country

It’s nothing to do with racism. I hate people labeling it that way.

That is B.S. Martin is using the Rwanda bill as an excuse to cover up the amount they are letting in.

Maybe Ireland should have implemented some border controls after Brexit after all. Just saying...😮

This actually makes sense. The EU has open borders and clearly welcomes these people. The UK doesn’t. This isn’t a UK problem, it’s an EU problem. Encouraging these people to continue on to another area of the EU that wants them such as Ireland is completely logical. Any objections from the Irish government would need to be directed towards the EU leadership and certainly not the UK government. The Rwanda scheme probably isn’t needed at all now tbh. Good outcome for everyone I reckon.
