Lol I'm Chinese by ethnicity and I've always been crossing my chopsticks since I was a kid. Practically speaking, having the fulcrum in the middle instead of at the end of the chopsticks is so much more efficient, so I never saw the need to change the way I used it.

Asian people who are giving you shit for using your chopsticks wrong are probably Asians that haven't even been to Asia or really hardcore Asian grandmas.

Here in Asia, we give 0 shits about how you use your chopsticks. Hell, no one even cares if you stick your chopsticks on your rice (no matter how many Asian restaurant etiquette videos there are).
This video just shows how most people use them and the most efficient way to do so. But if you're really struggling, ask for a fork. Asian restaurants don't care how you eat your food as long as you pay your bill.

To be fair though eating with chopsticks isn't necessarily the same for everyone, I know plenty of Asian people who use them differently to one another, it's a bit like using a pencil; not everyone holds them a specific way and adapt to what's more comfortable.
