The scriptures talk about some of the great patriarchs of old (like Jacob) blessing their children. This is a tradition that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues today in a few different ways! In this episode, Dave talks about Patriarchal Blessings — what they are and why they’re important.

Notes:

-“To look upon a patriarch as a fortune-teller is an offense to the Priesthood; the patriarch only indicates the gifts the Lord would give us, if we labor for them” (John Widtsoe, “Evidences and Reconciliations” (3 Volumes), pg. 323.

-It’s worth noting that a patriarchal blessing given by the stake patriarch is different from a father’s blessing, given by the father of a household to members of his family.
