At 61 mine started fairly suddenly, I now have to carry epi pen, just a small amount tightens my throat and causes wheezing. I'm in disbelief that all of my meds have it in them as fillers. I feel for everyone that has this its awful and especially the babies and small children that have this. Thanks for your very informed and well presented video, i do wish i could find more on adult milk protein allergy that happens in later life.

I've been drinking cow's milk all of my life. I'm now in my 60s & I've suddenly become allergic to cows' milk & other dairy products. I've broken out in hives. My colleague saw my skin & asked me "do you drink a lot of milk & eat lots of dairy products"? I said "yes, I love drinking milk & eating cheese". Then she told me about her "teenage daughter had the same hives rash & our family doctor told her she's got a milk allergy". I said "thanks for this information". I've now cut back on milk & cheese. My skin is getting better. I'm drinking soy milk, instead of cow's milk. 👍

Casein I’m guessing - I’ve had vulvodynia…. So much discomfort. Since I’ve stopped dairy, including butter, the symptoms have gone. Doctors don’t have a clue. I’ve been in pain for 40 years. Also, I had a white tongue, which I could never get cleaned. Stopped butter, my tongue is normal.

Here's a summary of the key points and additional information:

Dairy Allergy Overview:
Definition: A dairy allergy is an adverse immunological response to proteins, particularly calcium, found in milk, including curds and whey.
Triggers: Allergic reactions can be triggered by proteins in cow, goat, or sheep milk.
Prevalence: Approximately 2-3% of infants may experience dairy allergies, but this often diminishes by age six. Adult allergies are typically chronic.
Mechanism of Dairy Allergy:
Immune Response: The immune system reacts to specific milk proteins (calcium or whey), producing immunoglobulin E antibodies.
Histamine Release: Subsequent exposures lead to the release of histamines, causing allergic reactions such as rashes and difficulty breathing.
Eosinophilic Esophagitis: In some cases, dairy allergies can cause inflammation of the esophagus.
Dairy Allergy vs. Lactose Intolerance:
Dairy Allergy: Involves an immune system response to milk proteins, causing allergic reactions.
Lactose Intolerance: Results from the body's inability to digest lactose, a milk sugar, without involving the immune system.
Seven Common Signs of Dairy Allergy:
Swelling and Inflammation: Includes anaphylaxis symptoms like hives, swollen face, throat, wheezing, and rapid heartbeat.
Rapid Pulse, Dizziness, Fainting: Indicates anaphylaxis, requiring immediate medical attention.
Hives on the Skin: Rash appearing within minutes to hours after dairy exposure.
Digestive Symptoms: Nausea, diarrhea, severe vomiting, especially in infants.
Skin Problems: Eczema, acne, or other skin conditions may be linked to a dairy allergy.
Fatigue: Persistent fatigue, suggesting a potential dairy allergy or other food sensitivity.
Joint Aches: Some studies suggest a connection between dairy consumption and joint pain.
Management and Treatment:
Avoidance: People with dairy allergies should avoid dairy products.
Label Reading: Check food labels for hidden dairy ingredients.
Inquire About Food Preparation: Ask about ingredients and food preparation methods when dining out.
Antihistamines: Use over-the-counter antihistamines for minor allergic reactions.
Epinephrine: Carry an epinephrine injector for severe reactions.
Alternatives to Dairy:
Plant-Based Options: Soy milk, almond milk, and other nut-based or plant-based milk alternatives.
Human Breast Milk: A suitable choice for infants under one year old.
Formula Options: Soy protein formula can be an alternative for infants with dairy allergies.
Risk Factors and Complications:
Factors: Age, family history of allergies, breastfeeding duration, other allergies, and early introduction of solid foods.
Complications: Dairy allergies can persist into adulthood, requiring ongoing management.
In summary, individuals with dairy allergies need to be vigilant about their diet, manage symptoms, and consider alternative sources of nutrition. Early detection and appropriate management are crucial for a healthy and normal life.

I get hives on my forearms when I consume dairy. I sure do miss cheese though. It's more difficult when I am also allergic to wheat and soy. But I just made creme brulee out of coconut milk.. you can find ways to make the stuff you love. Except cheese :(

I get flu like symptoms after I consume dairy and get a strange type of breakout on my face. It took me a while to figure it out because it can take a couple of days to kick in from when I consume it.
