My A95L just updated today. Netflix calibrated mode and Dolby vision dark almost identical so the update fixed it so I’m happy. 😁

The calibrated modes look great. I prefer both of them, especially the prime calibrated mode when watching prime.

I have a SONY KD-55AG8 Oled which routinely has issues with Dolby Vision but only with Disney+ which you also can't turn off, if the app detects the tv has Dolby Vision it forces it on. The colours and brightness will constantly change, it's very very distracting to the point of unwatchable. Never had the same issue with Amazon Prime or Netflix, 4k Blu Rays are fine also.

Prime is using HDR10+ tho isnt it? so is this futhering the point that HDR10+ and DV are basically the exact same now? and one isnt better than the other? or is this proving HDR10+ is better?

Isn’t it time that the experts refer to HDR as Spotlight mode as it highlights some objects and dims other objects including the actors?

It’s a scene between vivid and calibrated modes that carries additional data or at best a filter that’s applied to the image.

They called it High dynamic Range suggesting it’s better than Standard Range ( the same way that Premium sounds better than Economy) but ultimately it was just a remix of the song that chooses to highlight a certain sound over the other ones. Do I prefer the voice to be much louder than the guitar in my favorite song? It depends…

Hey Fomo. I need some help on choosing my next tv. I currently have the Vizio M658-G1.

My options are.
Samsung S90D - 65” or 77”
Samsung S90C - 65” or 77” (if I can find the 77”)
Sony A80L - 65” or 77”
LG C3

TCL QM851 - 75” or 85”
Hisense U8N - 75” or 85”

Looking for the best bang for my buck. But I also want the best picture I can get within a reasonable price. I just don’t want to spend unnecessary money when I can get something at a better price that is slightly less if that makes sense. Kind of like in your videos where you recommend the S90C over the S90D for instance. But I think the 77” S90C is sold out everywhere.

My use case will by 60% Xbox Series X / 40% 4k movies and streaming.

The tv will be in a theater room with controlled lighting. I can make it pitch black if I wanted to.

I’m also open to other suggestions.

I tried to watch your reviews along with Brian’s. Very helpful.

I also watched Quantum’s reviews but I was thrown off by his reviews. Not sure about them honestly. Seemed not right.

I'm really starting to get over the reference accuracy mentality. So much Dolby vision and HDR content is so bland with a strong green push. I'll never understand why colorists choose this palette so often. The crazy part is that the SDR version of content typically has much more vibrant colors and higher average luminosity levels. Another great thing about SDR is the consistency, it almost always looks good and your TV does not have to rely on a bunch of processing tricks or struggle to display. I've completely disabled HDR on my S90D.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, set your tv to YOUR preference, there is no point in paying for a calibration that gets you objectively close to a colorist/director's SUBJECTIVE choices. If you let me color grade a movie I promise it will be different because we all have our own preferences to color. My tv looks great. I've spent a lot of time tweaking it, a professional calibration would most likely look worse to MY eyes and that's my point.

I don't watch nor do I have Netflix or Prime video. Mine is 4K Blu-ray and MoviesAnywhere/Fandango at home and Tubi TV. Im not a subscription person.

Can you do NON- Subscription based settings. Even tho I don't have a Sony TV

I have the 85 B9, the Prime Video mode is dark and you cant adjust brightness using it. Hopeless...

Sony CORE was the same. Honestly I can't understand why all these perfectly mastered modes are so dim. In Professional mode, the brightness is 4! Yes you can adjust it, but it's so dim it's just unwatchable, I honestly don't get it.

hi, I purchased an open box 65" Bravia 9 from Best Buy. Bring it home for evaluation hoping to keep it, but I noticed some strange behavior. So I returned it. Wanted to know anyone else out there is experiencing the same issues going into any of the pictures settings to make an adjustment sometimes they would take affect and sometimes they would not the sliders move. Let's say Gamma or the 10 point white balance or the individual color white balance and sometimes they would not have any effect also the advanced contrast enhancer would take affect. Sometimes it would not, it would not stay connected to the Bravia connect app in my iPhone 16 Pro. I uninstall the app multiple times and reinstalled it reconnected it and done a factory reset on the TV if anybody has experienced the same issues please let me know. Thanks.
