The editor of this movie definitely went to therapy for months after working on this movie

The hardest part was trying to understand who's will was being enforced for certain movements and it makes so much more sense seeing both the inverted and non-inverted fights now

my man literally blocked a fight scene to work both forwards and backwards

I watched this forward and now the inverted. I'm at a standstill.

So there's basically three different versions of Protagonist and Neil in this scene. There's past Protagonist and Neil who are going forward, then there's future Protagonist and Neil who are inverted, and then finally there's future Protagonist and Neil who are going forward as well. I've only just picked up on that.

1:55 weird thing is that because they are reverse time to eachother, because they are pushing against eachother, they should feel no resistance, because from both of their perspectives the forces go in the direction they want. They push the other backwards, and the one they are pushing is trying to push them except that their time flows opposite so they are pulling. So strange to think about.

Apparently Christopher Nolan had an obsession with playing film stock backward and decided to make a movie about it.

2:00 Oh my God they both try to trip each other but it fails because they both already saw the other one try and fail.

You can see the intent in both of their actions. You can see the confusion, reaction, and surprise when their attack lands and simultaneously un-lands. Imagine you walk into a room and see a man bloodied and defeated on the floor. You should not feel a sense of finality, instead you should think backwards and anticipate how they will be before you perform the final blow, then you deliver that final blow, but continue to play defense because the struggle will increase. Every time you land a hit it's because there was an opening, and that opening was created by your hit, but then you should leave them in a position where it would be easy to hit them. This is like chess but you have to be careful as your winning state is slowly undone back to the opening. You start with checkmate and you have to play backwards, and sometimes moving a piece will un-capture an enemy piece. You have to flip reaction with anticipation.

Maybe none of this is coherent, but that's just a testament to how high concept and difficult this movie is. Very well done.

3:55 The inverted part after he goes into the turnstile is like deadpan comedy almost XD just puts down the gun and backs away like that was weird

3:35 I always thought the inverted protagonist summed the gun from the floor and started firing. Never imagined he emptied the clip then threw it away.

The part where Neil is chasing after the protagonist in reverse looks so funny

Imagine moving in reverse in coming into a fight at the end of it lol, and having to ‘Unfight’ them.

Damn you can literally play this both ways...

One thing that this scene highlights is that inverted people can seem to have forwards intentions.
