COM 101 Class:

In module 2 we discussed individualism vs. collectivism. In this video, individualism vs collectivism advertisements were discussed. One item can be used to display a different audience or sell that item for a different purpose. In his example, a camera was used. A selfie using a camera represents individualism. A picture of a group represents collectivism. Another thing that stands out is how to tailor you message based of your audience. Emotion vs. logic. I guess I never thought about it, but it makes sense. To get your point across to your audience you need to know how your audience would best perceive the message. This goes with communication we learned in module 4 I believe as well as public speaking we are learning this module.

COM 101 class:

The first interesting thing I picked out of the video was the individualism vs collectivism advertisements. If there was some advertisement for something that focuses on individualism it would best be put in the US because we as a culture focus on ourselves. Other cultures in Asia for example are more of collectivist culture and the ad would involve more people like family and friends to make it more appealing. This connects to what we learned back in module two about collectivism and individualism. The other area I chose to be interesting in was how emotion and logos can persuade people differently. For example, Ethos is emotion and if it were used on people that are easily persuaded by emotions, it would work very well. Same for Logos in that situation just on people who use more logic. This connects to what we have learned about in module 5 this week.

I’m having trouble imagining using emotional language for persuasion, how does an emotional argument look like vs a logical argument
