00:42 - Technique
03:59 - Sweep Exercise
05:30 - Gm7 Arp shape
06:50 - teh shred
07:09 - Gm7 with Legato
08:13 - m13
09:28 - final thoughts

Also please forgive the weird video and green screen glitches as I continue to improve and iron out what my video setup will be. I had to record this twice and still am not happy with the final product but wanted to get a lesson up asap!

I’m not nitpicking, I just want to save frustration for later viewers. This video has helped me IMMENSELY with this technique, but I had to rewatch the videos many many times because I just wasn’t getting it. On the 3-string sweep you start with, the tabs you provide are not the same as what you’re playing, and what you’re playing is definitely way easier to do. Your tabs went “12-11-10-13-11-12” (on the respective strings, but I can’t write tabs in a comment) but in reality you played “12-11-10-13-11-10” then repeat. That 10th fret on the g string was a GAME CHANGER when I finally realized it. So much easier to play and pick up speed when you don’t have to double pick the same note.

The magnetism of that microphone is so strong it creates a gravitational field that distorts his face. That's science that is

This is by far the best introduction to sweep picking arpeggios on YouTube. There is just enough information to keep you busy, without being bored. Always great content.

You are a great teacher, not all the wasted minutes of side talk and stories....much appreciated that you value students time by doing that...also love your 90 miles per hour delivery, keep up the good work...it’s helping me teach my students top play better

Great video. You are an excellent teacher and humble which in the ego centric guitar world is a breath of fresh air. The basic sweep technique using your arm was the most important thing I learned. Thankyou and keep on shredding!

Is this THE BEST sweep-picking-technique lesson on YouTube/anywhere-really? - Absolutely! This dude is gifted in many ways, not just musically, one of them is his teaching ability - how he reveals the assumedly complex/impossible to be simple & approachable - and well possible with the right practice & teacher. Great stuff as always Jake!

Thanx a lot for the muting strings part! There are so many really good instructional videos about sweep arpeggios around, but nearly ALL of them miss this part. And in terms of motivation, which for me comes out of a good tone, this is crucial. Very nice!

One of the first techniques I wanted to learn that got me playing guitar, and it's still eludes me. But your instructions are top-notch as always. Hopefully when I practice to this I might finally get some success. Thank you

You made my heart drop when i thought you said Liam Gallagher was sweep picking. This video was worth it just for that !! Haha

Wish I knew where you were when I started around 16 years ago. It would have been such a fast track by avoiding all the filtering through books, cds, dvds, you name it!

Absolutely love your work and a joy to watch. All the best and thank you for your time!

I notice and appreciate the extra effort to teach people and offer things someone might want or not realize is helpful. some of these guitar related videos seem more about the ego of the video maker, than about helping people looking for help

30 years and still my Achilles' heel. I never had the patience to practice them properly. As a young player in the Bay Area in the late 80's, I was bored to death by metal/thrash bands with Skolnick clones shredding three-string arpeggios in every solo. I do wish I had spent more time on them but not that much. That's why I never got my Shred Club membership card.
Great lesson and thank you for the video. All the best from the Bay Area.

Beautiful lesson man, I especially like that you use the word "difficult" to clue us in to the concept that it takes effort!

I've seen a bunch of your videos, and I have never thought you go through things too quickly. What I have thought is that you're the best teacher I have seen on YouTube. Really. Seriously. You're good! I don't have to sit through tons of extraneous stuff before you get down to teaching, and you don't wander off into tangential land every couple minutes. I really appreciate your lessons.

Most of my advancement in guitar skills is directly attributable to you. I've begun to learn things I never would have thought I could just a few years ago. Keep up the great work!!!🎸🎸
