New 2018 Mercedes B-Class review - can the humble MPV be saved?

While the rest of the motoring world shifts its resources from MPV to SUV, Mercedes continues to invest in a car for every occasion. Despite declining segment sales, Mercedes has completely overhauled the B-Class for 2019. Based on the same platform as the A-Class, the tech-laden newcomer aims to better its predecessor in every way.

So, six months after we first tried the A-Class hatchback, our attention turns to Merc’s five-seat MPV. Here, we’re testing the B 200 turbo petrol, which is expected to account for the lion’s share of sales when it goes on sale in the UK next month.

The B class is the best value for money. Its very very spacious on the inside with plenty of boot room, and probably the best driver sitting position in the baby benz's.

Why SUV’s should be preferable to MPV’s by car buyers, is inexplicable in my opinion. In fact to me this new B-class i more desirable than any other current Mercedes model.

Not sure why but I think I actually like this more than the A-class visually.

With the imminent onslaught of EQ models, I'm guessing there won't be another B250e? I had the current all electric model, and apart from only doing 80-100miles per charge, it was such an amazing car to own and drive.

Nice review👍🏻

Please tell me if the "B200 d" version came with multilink suspension at the rear.

Thank you

This car deserves an AMG Boy racer. Please make a B45 AMG.

It is NOT Renault sourced you fool. The petrol one was CO-DEVELOPED by Mercedes and Renault and the 1.5 base diesel is Renault sourced. There is a difference. No one ever said the previous gen Mini had a Peugeot sourced engine because it was CO-DEVELOPED by BMW and Peugeot.

This aggressive front end looks hilarious on a frumpy granny car.

I would rather purchase the Renault/Dacia 7 passenger Lodgy with the same 1.5L engine at LESS than 1/2 the price!

Hideous. They literally just pasted the A class front end on a taller car not accounting for its height. Awkward
