That moment when Mace asks Anakin to have a seat, you can hear that little hint of the Imperial March play in the background solidifying Anakin’s turn to the dark side in that moment. Crazy lil detail ain’t it.

This is reason why Anakin turned to the Dark Side and the Jedi has been almost extinct. The Jedi council has chosen not to promote Anakin into becoming a Jedi master due to being close friends with Palpatine and afraid of what he’ll become. Anakin has given his life to the galaxy and for his friends, and the Jedi council had become arrogant and hypocrites by playing politics. In episode three, Obi-Wan didn’t even try to defend Anakin in the Jedi council, while the council has a request his presence to which of this represents one of his failures. I mean, after everything that Anakin has been throughout the clone wars it meant nothing to the Jedi. I know that emotions and showing too much passion is for bidden due to the Jedi code, but they are not giving Anakin a chance to show them what he can do. His father figure, Qui Gon Jinn, knows what he is truly capable of and saw what he can be from the very beginning. This shows what led to the Jedi‘s greatest failure by letting Darth Sidious to rise, create the empire, and wipe them out.

Mace Windu: “You will attend the meetings of this Council, ” the Korun Master said, “but you will not be granted the rank and privileges of a Jedi Master.”
Anakin: “What? How dare you? How dare you?” Anakin stood welded to the floor, motionless. “No Jedi in this room can match my power-no Jedi in the galaxy! You think you can deny Mastery to me?”
Yoda: “The Chancellor’s representative you are, ” Yoda said. “And it is as his representative you shall attend the Council. Sit in this chamber you will, but no vote will you have. The Chancellor’s views you shall present. His wishes. His ideas and directives. Not your own.”
Anakin: “This is an insult to me, and to the chancellor. Do not imagine that it ill be tolerated.”
Mace Windu’s eyes were as cold as the voice from Anakin’s mouth. “Take your seat, young Skywalker.”
Anakin matched his stare. Perhaps I’ll take yours.
“Anakin, ” Obi-Wan said softly. He gestured to an empty seat beside him. “Please.”
And something in Obi-Wan’s gentle voice, in his simple, straightforward request, sent his anger slinking off ashamed, and Anakin found himself alone on the carpet in the middle of the Jedi Council, blinking. He suddenly felt very young, and very foolish.
Anakin: “Forgive me, Masters.” His bow of contrition couldn’t hide the blaze of embarrassment that climbed his cheeks.

After the Council meeting…Obi-Wan’s response to Anakin’s rant about the Council’s mistrust of his close friendship with Palpatine.
“Anakin, stop. Listen to yourself. Your thoughts are of jealousy, and pride. These are dark thoughts, Anakin. Dangerous thoughts, in these dark times-you are focused on yourself when you need to focus on your service. Your outburst in the Council was an eloquent argument against granting you Mastery. How can you be a Jedi Master when you have not mastered yourself?”

The fact that Anakin saved Obi Wan, let alone the whole planet, during the battle of Corruscant shows his ability that he's more than capable of being a Master Jedi. The council shows no respect and dismisses his actions and heroics entirely and that further enraged Anakin due to his young age. Had he been guided and humbled more, being on the council would have been a more gracious act and he would felt distinguished instead of insulted like he says

The older I get the more agree with Anakin. He had been a huge player in the Jedi war effort thus far, he'd just returned from rescuing the supreme chancellor out of a goddamn warzone & he defeated the head of the enemy military in personal combat. even after all that the Jedi still disrespect & mistreat Anakin. F them.

The Jedi truly did misinterpret the prophecy like what Yoda said. "Bring balance" does not mean wiping out the Sith with only Jedi remaining (or the other way round). Before this, there were only two Sith but many Jedi. Ignoring the spin-off shows, at the end of this movie, Anakin really did bring balance to the Force; there were only two Jedi and two Sith remaining at the end, balanced.

Man, I forgot this scene, but it is heartbreaking seeing how most of the council believes that Anakin may not be the Chosen One. Heck, even the greatest, wisest, and most compassionate Jedi Yoda became disillusioned with Anakin. This further solidifies my opinion that Obi-Wan was truly the only Jedi that stayed true to his values. The Jedi at this point have become weak, arrogant, and hypocrites 3:34
