I took the caredge advise back in Feb of 2023 for a Rav4 hybrid. I called the dealer about the vehicle in transit and asked for the OTD price and once I got that info I then put down a $500 deposit and when the car came in a few months later, when they asked for how to pay for it I told them I will be paying cash and they were fine with it. I paid MSRP no add-ons no warranties the only add-on was the port installed add-ons which was $250 dollars for the door edge guards and wheel locks but that was it.

I have tried to make a deal on a few Tacomas recently...with no success. I'm cash (but I haven't mentioned it), but they have never asked me about financing or a trade. Apparently, I haven't passed the first test...paying over MSRP!

Some very good advice indeed! I am looking to buy a nice used car and want to pay cash for it. I will hold my cards close to the vest.

Why is buying a car this difficult. The whole thing is a scam and everyone knows it. It's the most hated thing I want to do.

If you plan to pay cash, the initial negotiation is also a good time to wear your Alabama Crimson Tide t-shirt, gym shorts, and croc's combo to the dealership.

Made contact with 6 dealers, .. As soon as I said I'd only talk about out the door price not payments, 3 of them immediately stopped replying to me.

I can see where some individuals would say CASH up front, and several times. They would think this was something to brag about. Great explanatory video.

or tell them you are paying cash, then walk away from the deal.. they going to gouge people, we can waste their time too

What if they tell me that they cannot give me the OTD price UNLESS I tell them whether it's financed or paid with cash?

So what harm is it to tell them you want to finance. Then when they provide final price tag, then say you change mind and now want to pay cash? Technically you aren’t lying or deceiving, you can tell them you had every intention of financing but after hearing final price you then decided to pay cash. What’s the harm?

Have you guys seen what happened with Mac Haik dodge in Mississippi? It's a really messed up situation, thankfully dodge is stepping in to fix their giant mess up! I think more people need to be aware of it!

do those numbers include the dealer holdback on a new car? is that still a thing that the manufacturer pays the dealer 3% once the car is sold? i've always used that as a reason the dealer will still make money if i pay just over "invoice"

I'm gonna say "I'm paying cash" somewhere that wants my business!

Is paying off your loan the next day a viable strategy? Tell them you plan on financing and get as much off on the out the door price, then pay off the loan in full the next day? Any ding to credit? Do the loans typically have disallow this?

I have an idea for you to present. At my age of 77 I first witnessed this in the early 1980's. e.g. rather than the repair shop only doing what I asked for, they began to make a list of things that should be done. Thx for the great lesson on buying, but I'm only buying Teslas now.

Weird I just bought my wife a car and the dealership gave me the best deal if I paid cash because many have issues getting financing. I had plans to buy out right but wanted the best out the door price so was willing to finance then pay off month one. In discussing with sales man they wanted to move the car and are running into issues with customers getting financing. I did purchase the prepaid maintenance through 50k but prior to deal called around for what they cost and price was in line nothing else but to my absolute shock they offered different packages and the Platinum package was $12k! For others out there if you want an extended warranty the manufacturer always offers this to you when factory warranty is coming yo an end for a fraction of what dealer offers to you. When I bought my car i wanted to prepay for my maintenance and said this is a one time purchase shouldn’t be adding into monthly payment they pushed back and said no so I said take it out. Came back and offered it as one time fee $500 less, sorry dealer the fact you did that gives me zero confidence that this is actual price…I’ll pay as I go.

If you negotiate a good out the door price and then go to the finance office and tell the finance manager you're paying cash, can they back out?

Question, great video, I am in the middle of a new RAM truck deal. I can pay cash if I want, but if I get a decent interest rate I can go that way also. Should I let them try to finace it first and if I like it cool, If not then I tell them I will just go Cash? Welcome the input on this

I don't pay interest and I don't over-pay. I guess I'm going to walk. The last time I bought a new Toyota, they pushed a warranty. I said my warranty is buying a Toyota. Tell me it's junk?
