How to EASILY and QUICKLY take apart a pallet!

You want to take apart a pallet and you want to do it easily and quickly without breaking any of the boards. This video will give you easy steps on how to do just that.

I use a dot punch & hammer to get the nails out. BTW, the older pallets are heavier and stronger with age, new is not always that great. Grinding the nail and filling with kit is another option, or dot punch the nail under the wood then fill.

Where do you get your pallets? Most of pallets I've seen are so hard that the wood splinters and breaks with minimum prying.

You just lost three inches off each board, the nice finished and weathered ends, and traded it in for a bunch of splinters. Way down my list of disassembling pallets. Sorry

From experience ripping things up... I've learned to lay nail boards with the nail points down. No one intentionally steps on a nail, but all it takes is a little stumble or inattention for a long, rusty nail to go into the bottom of your foot and maybe even out the top. Even if you're up to date on your tetanus shots, a nail in your foot can make your life miserable for a week or so until it heals. Cheers

did those pallets have spiral nails with dead heads and glue? the pallets i got were almost impossible to take apart like this without snapping the nail heads off or snapping the wood.

Thanks Ben! In process of building a floating pond dock out of pallet wood right now here in Colorado. I miss the pallets from back in NE PA. They are all HARDWOOD! Can you believe it? Pallets! Out of Hardwood! ugh. Beautiful stuff, and endlessly useful as we all know.

All the pine and fur pallets here are handy as we can convert them into being though. Take what you can get where you can get it, without complaints for sure. :) Thanks again! Keep up the handy vids man!

Its so easy to use an SDS type electric hammer fitted with pointed chisel. Place the chisel between the planks where they are nailed and press the switch. If this machine can break concrete then it can easily pull apart the nails. Using the chisel in a slanted angle reduces the risk of the planks getting ripped.

i'm taking apart a pallet but i'm just using a hammer. using it all to make a gate. don't have a crowbar tho. thanks for the post.

I like to use a sawzaw with a 12 in metal blade and just cut between the bords to cut the nails
