Don’t replace the makeshift tourniquet. Put the new one above the makeshift one as close as possible, but don’t mess w the old one. The goal is to stop the bleeding, not look good. Touching the old one can start the bleeding again, not to mention you have to loosen the pressure w tourniquets a certain way

This is like a cooking show where after they list all the ingredients, they're like "There you go, that's how you bake a cake. See you next time!"

Why leave the most important part - how to tie the thing? I mean we can see that you did some sort of a square knot, but a bit of instruction on how to tie it would be great.

Carry a flat folded SOFT-W tourniquet in my jeans pocket every single day. Fun fact, 5.11 Defender flex jeans or normal pant have an extended coin pocket in the front right pocket of the pant which is where I carry my TQ (can get it with both hands and in awkward positions). I've used a SOFT-W at a music festival as a volunteer medic for a drunk kid who cut his arm open with a broken beer bottle.

A gun blew up in my hand and a tourniquet is what saved my life

When replacing a makeshift tourniquet with a real one, place the real tourniquet proximal to the makeshift tourniquet, and leave the makeshift tourniquet on until they arrive at a hospital, let the doctor remove it.

This video should be titled “Items needed to create a makeshift tourniquet” but good info. I still learned something. Thanks. 😊

"if you don't mind losing the shirt off your back" "oh no, I'm bleeding to death, but this is my favorite shirt no way I'm going to rip it"

As a Firefighter/AEMT I used one recently on a guy who accidentally cut his radial artery at a Hardees. Remember to not leave it on any longer than about 2 hours folks

The old one needs to stay on do not touch it after putting it on, the victim can get in shock and will lose alot of blood and will probably die.instread put the commercial tourniquet above the old one.same applies if an commercial tourniquet doesn't stop all the bleeding put another one above it.

I had a dream where I survived a tsunami along with other people. One guy lost his entire forearm. So I applied a tourniquet so he didn't bleed out. Apparently I knew how to do a tourniquet without prior experience. Weird, anyways I came here to check if I applied it correctly.

I carry a tourniquet, along with a host of other stuff with me in my vehicle and on my person all the time. I’ve never needed any of it(off duty) save for some roll gauze, gloves, bandaids and came pretty close to using my BVM. Unfortunately, the would-be patient had IIWL. All the same, I feel more comfortable carrying it, and as long as I have a duty to act(even off duty) I might as well keep some things handy and at the very least, some PPE
