I love being a software engineer even if I am not good at it. I just love to code.

Thank you so much for making this video. As I am in the middle of interviews, this really helped give some positive perspective.

Hi Kevin, I heard from a lot of people that the working culture of Amazon is a little different than other Tech companies. People in Amazon work more rigorously as software Engineers. Is that a true statement or just a rumor?

I don't know how it works in New York, but in California "Unlimited Vacation" also means that they don't need to pay you for vacation days when you're no longer working for them (nor does it accrue from year to year). If you're not working for one of the great tech companies, you do need to be careful about that. During those interviews, you need to ask your future (non-management/non-HR) co-workers how many days of vacation they've actually taken up to this point, or how many days of vacation they've taken the first year they started working at that company (this is assuming you're the same level as they are. Obviously, junior developers are going to feel more pressure than senior developers).

What's your work life balance been at Amazon? How many hours do you work per week?

Thanx for this video. I think there are more vídeos about "why you shouldn't become a soft dev", it's just so demoralizing and it is already hard to study this and try to get into the industry

Hi Kevin, great video! I would just disagree on the point of 'no education required'. I hear this more and more from youtubers but tend to disagree for many reasons why this may not always be the case. For one, without a formal college education, you're always going to be competing against students who went to college who also have the coding projects that a self taught person did.
Also, I find many people who became software engineers without a formal education have many holes in their knowledge. Im not saying that the education system is great but when people learn at their own pace, they choose to build their own roadmap of learning and maybe inclined to avoid necessary knowledge that they may find boring. For example, I met a coding bootcamp grad who arrogantly did not know how to debug a codebase. Im not saying that those without a formal education are more ignorant, but that spending 4 years in College is a necessary roadmap to learn engineering skills.

hey man. I just finished code fellows in Seattle and I really want to work at Amazon. I know I need to drill DSA for a little while longer, but how can i stand out and get an interview? what kind of projects could a boot camper do to stand out and get a foot in the door?

im a current swe and love coding, but the industry it's not all fun and games. companies have optimized milking software engineer positions. you are the modern day workhorse. imo it's a good job for the ambitious 20-30 year old. but that's just my opinion and everyone has their own experience. but coding is definitely the best hobby :D

I don't agree with the point of medical school and being a doctor. Being a doctor is a much more prestigious and long-term profession than a software engineer. With a software engineer, your work is mostly worthless, feeding someone else pocket with almost zero impact on people's life. You will get a nice salary until the age of 35-40 and that is it. It's not that easy to enter either. You have to grind all those data structures and algorithms if you are not smart enough. Same thing you have to do if you study for medical school.
