Downgrades in the New Persona 5 Royal Port (& How to Fix Them)

The new Persona 5 Royal Port was an amazing release of an incredible game. The game saw many great changes with this release... but they weren't all good.

In the case of the Raido outfit, the reason it likely freezes is that the game is looking for something that doesn't exist but doesn't have "oh shit, this doesn't exist" condition as they assume the player won't get their hands on any item like that without modding the game.

The dimming of the visuals not being togglable is actually upsetting. When I think of Persona 5, I think of the overly stylish and flashy visuals. I'd very much prefer seeing a version of P5R that doesn't shackle it's own visual aesthetics.

The fades, on principle, aren't even that bad. It's an effect that's frequently used in anime for similar reasons, and some times, seemingly even for artistic flair.

The issue here is how _aggressive_ it is. I have rather sensitive eyes, so i'm always welcoming of options to minimize particularly intense flashing, but this is just too much. An action option to toggle it, or even more ideally, play with the intensity of it, would be _soooo_ much better.

One that I noticed pretty much immediately is that if you go into the logs you can no longer replay the reactions for non-voiced lines of dialogue where the characters either says one thing or makes a sound (like for example Ryuji has a line you read but all you hear is him saying OH MAN and that’s not what the dialogue says, it’s just there to supplement the dialogue and give it added context). Some of the sounds/reactions various characters have sound funny and were fun to spam or just immediately hear again. To be fair you couldn’t actually do this in Vanilla P5, it was a Royal upgrade along with new sprites and everything else

It seems they weirdly only ported the Korean/Chinese version of the game and only upscaled the textures from those versions

Also, quick side note regarding what you say at 3:27: You don't need mod menu of cheat engine to give yourself the Raidou DLC. If you start a new game with my friend MeovvCAT's Mod 'Full DLC Rework', interacting with the box in Leblanc is changed, and it will give you the missing outfits. Though this won't work if you already interacted with the box before you installed the mod.

still upset about my beloved Raidou he has the coolest fit and battle theme shame non-PC players will never know that

Fun fact: the Japanese Navy still use the Rising Sun variant of their flag on their ships. There are videos from visits their navy has done to Pearl Harbor for multiple international training simulations that still show this variant of the flag flying high on the sterns of their destroyers.

Seems to me that they used the Korean/Chinese version as the basis for the new port, at least that's my guess. (I doubt this game even came out in China though, what with the whole "rebellion against a corrupt government" thing. China probably wouldn't want to give their citizens any ideas.) As for the removal of those items and the visual changes, the fade is likely deliberate with everything else just going unnoticed by developers. It's worth noting that the porting was handled by Sega, not Atlus, and while I think that resulted in a superior port in terms of performance, if Atlus handled it they likely would've noticed these minor issues. I do hope they go in and fix these sometime though, it'd be a nice gesture.

i took a quick gander at the comments and i saw no one talk about so I will!

I bought P5R on my Nintendo Switch about a week ago and i’m nearly at the end but in regards to the Railroad map upscale image issue you mentioned, there was a recent update to P5R that actually fixed this issue but before that, i actually never noticed the upscale issue till you brought it up and then i booted up P5R and it was fixed! again i assume it was cause of the recent update to it but that’s one less issue to deal with i suppose👌

I actually like the Joker/C Showtime fade unlike the AOA one. The way it coincides with Crow's movements just feels right.
