I just put tiny signs around the backyard that say "No Mosquitoes".

When I saw the thumbnail with a Pic of the shortening, saying " kills millions" I thought it was about people not mosquitos.

I lost my bestie, a runner, surfer, hiker, biker, to West Nile Virus. He was only 63, but that's old enough for the blood-brain barrier to have thinned, allowing the virus to enter his brain. Thank you for your very important message about repelling and killing mosquitoes. (Because people ask, ...vacationing near Malibu, CA ~15 yrs ago)

For anyone interested, I did a similar thing, with the only difference being that I did not use a Crisco candle (CO2 production) - it still works really well... Considering that mosquitos lay their eggs in water, they're already naturally attracted to it - and considering it is the females that both lay the eggs and bite - you're already killing two birds with one stone...and not potentially burning down your house/deck in the process.

I placed four five gallon buckets around my home (two in front & two in back), filled them about 3/4 full of water, and added the Mosquito Dunks per the instructions. I do highly recommend using a lid and drilling holes near the top of the bucket, but not quite as big as those pictured here - small rodents will be attracted to the water inside, and will crawl inside and drown. Other than that, I move the buckets around about every 30 days, when adding more of the Dunks.

Even my neighbors noticed that there was a substantial decrease in the mosquito population around their house.

I've been doing this for about 5 years minus a couple bits. Step one get a 5 gallon bucket with lid . Step 2 spray said bucket whatever color you desire to blend into your yard. Step 3 drill small holes into side of bucket ( keeps critters out ) Step 4 add water and dunks. Step 5 place bucket or buckets around your property 6) check and apply new dunks about every three weeks. Mosquitos will find buckets in less than 24hrs, no candles needed .

I'm gonna try it. If it works, you have my eternal gratitude. We live in a forest on the Gulf Coast, and I'm a mosquito's favorite snack.

I have half an acre surrounded by 60 acres of Federal wetlands. For the last 2 years we have used a commercial pest control service who use a similar oil concoction and a leaf blower. They killed all the bugs and all my azaleas and rhododendrons.
I use peppermint oil to keep the squirrels and rodents out of the chassis and under hood of my and my neighbors vehicles. They love the plastic fuel hoses.

After Super Storm Sandy, we used Mosquito Barrier...its made in USA. Does not harm pollinators, children or pets or everyone else. You need to apply after every rain. It repels, does not kill unless its larvae in water. Natural garlic. Mix with water in a sprayer. Your yard will smell like garlic bread for an hour then that goes away and the allicin in the garlic repels flies and mosquitoes. They use it in New Oeleans and India!!! It's amazing and you can enjoy your yard!!!

A couple of thoughts here. Female mosquitos that are ready to lay eggs won't be attracted to a source of C02 so you probably don't even need the candle to get them to show up. Female mosquitos that are seeking a blood source will be attracted to C02 but are not yet ready to lay eggs so they may fly into the bucket and just leave later on when they don't find anything. In addition to the mosquito "dunk" toss in a handful of yard clippings or some straw into the water to decay over time as this decaying plant matter attracts female mosquitos that are ready to lay eggs to the water source. Straw will keep down algae growth due to it producing hydrogen peroxide as a by product when it decays (this is an old trick used by ranchers to keep their watering tanks clean of algae). If you insist on using the candle try adding a glue trap sheet on the inside wall of the bucket. This will catch some of the actively biting female mosquitos as they fly around inside the bucket before they can leave.

Used Dunks last summer. Saw very few mosquitos in my yard when for years before we were eaten alive.

Always love your videos. Just a thought: have you considered a video on bat houses, how to build them, why to build them, and why doing so encourages the natural balance? Thanks!

Add a tbs of natural oil soap to water to break the elasticity of the water. Once mosquitos land on the water to lay eggs they will not "stand" on the water but rather sink into it and drown. If any larvae that does hatch, it will not be able to remain afloat therefore also drown.

Since the hurricanes, particularly Milton. Central Florida has had a handful of dengue hemorrhagic fever cases pop-up. That funk is no joke! I sincerely appreciate the information

I suggest some larger hole screening over holes in the bucket to keep birds, lizards, frogs, etc. falling into the bucket by mistake.

I wish I could give you a great big bear hug because I hate mosquitoes. I'm always a target for them and always have varying sized bumps from their bites leaving me scratching like mad.

I refuse to eat Crisco anymore, but knew I should hold onto it for something.
