How To Fix A Cracked Disk

"As an archivist and game preserver I feel compelled to add a warning to this method of repairing a cracked DVD.

DVD's spin at about 300rpm with is fairly fast and must be consistent. So with that in mind you must use a very thin (emphasis on thin) layer of super glue (cyanoacrylate) ON THE INNER RING ONLY!! Also, the layer must be unbroken, so as pieces won't fly off in the assembly and let the DVD dry thoroughly before testing (see next paragraph).

Too much super glue, and you risk due to the heat buildup and fast spinning of the DVD, small super glue fragments flinging off into the laser assembly, DVD transport rails, or the drive motor. ANY one of these can destroy your DVD drive and/or your entire game console. If you do NOT feel confident enough to do this, then don't do it!!!! It's better to lose a DVD than ruin the console with super glue fragments.

For other references, I suggest you see YT videos on the laser removal and repair of a game console. It is NOT easy NOR cheap and also, parts for game consoles are becoming more difficult and expensive to find.


This is no criticism of the creator of this video nor is it shade as this method is a valid one, if only briefly. You will have to get another DVD as the torsional and rotational stress of the DVD player will make the disc crack again. And like the video said, once it reaches the outer ring, it cannot be repaired."

Had a used game store sell me what I thought was going to be a useless Conkers Bad Fur Day for Xbox. Didn’t think anything of it that it was cheap. Took it home to find three small cracks. Did this trick on both sides and jokes on them the game works perfect now! :)

Super smash brawl here. I had a tiny crack in the center. It would let me start up the game and even look through characters, but it eventually would crash. I was so afraid I did it wrong since the super glue looked a bit sloppy, but it really worked! I tried this trick, let it dry, gave a good wash if water and it was went smoothly again.

This process saved my wedding DVD! I used Loctite glue on the inner part with a Q-Tip.

Can anyone here explain why almost all of the games I own have cracks on them. Even the ones I didn't touch for some time

DVDs are harder to break than CDs, I have some DVDs like this, even played them and I have never had any issue with the cracks spreading. While I've had a CD crack in half, this was bought new and it didn't take much stress for it to crack, I didn't see any crack in the middle ring at that point though as didn't notice it. I certainly don't recommend glue as this may add to further damage or problems to the DVD player.
