Tattoo Infection can be super scary and dangerous. But most people think that their tattoo is infected but actually it is just doing the normal tattoo healing process. well in todays video i explain how to tell if your tattoo is infected so you know.

This video in inspired of the common question i get asked "my tattoo is infected, what should i do?" or "how to tell if my tattoo is getting infected" because if this is your first time getting a tattoo or do not have any experience with tattoos, well then you might get nervous when your tattoo starts to heal. again alot of people get the tattoo healing process mistaken with the tattoo being infected.

Btw everyone here who has sensitive skin just in normal life your healing process can take longer than someone else. I have 5 big tattoos on my back, chest and arms and my healing process usually takes twice as much as my friends.

i mean swelling doesn't always go down after the first day....that totally depends on where u get tattooed also
my hand tattoo was swollen for a whole week ....mostly due to a 4 hour sitting and over worked ....but swelling can defo be more than 1 day and not be infected ...i was so happy when i could finally make a fist when the swelling stopped XD
alot of people mix up allergic reactions to infection also
hopefully i start my tattoo apprenticeship soon

I had an infected tattoo on my right hand years ago. I know my artist was clean and had gotten two tattoos from her before with no issue. I also know I was cleaning it correctly cuz I have a lot of experience with getting tattooed. Not sure how it got infected except it was on my right hand which obviously is more exposed than other spots. Even my left hand tattoos never got infected. It was bad and I had to go back and get spots touched up and that was scary but thankfully I didn’t get a second infection. Thank god for antibiotics.

Bigger pieces, with more packed in colors or blacks can be hot and inflamed for more than the first day. Just depends on the situation

Swelling after doesnt slways mean infection. The swelling must be hot, red and painful. For some it just swells and isnt at all painful. From over working the skin.

Good points. The tattoo on my lower leg got infected after healing normally for 6 days. I work in a hospital and I probably irritated it somehow and it was restricted to a very small area. After consulting with my artist he told me to start using Bacitracin right away several times a day. The infection was cured and it healed just needing a small touch up. I'm sure it wan't my artist's fault. I've had three other tats done by him and they all healed in just 2 weeks. His shop is very clean and he follows good aseptic technique. All his needles are sterile. Being in healthcare I can spot risky practices. So sometimes something may just happen due to ones in particulars fault.

I like how even though I'm almost done completing my sleeves, I still freak out everytime I get a new one.

My tattoo isn’t red. There is one spot one my tattoo that really hurts when I go near it when applying aquaphor. Blue ink was applied but the scabs look yellow/green with no puss.

I got a neck tattoo about a day ago, and I literally couldn’t sleep because it was itching and inflammation. But now the itch is gone and I have three soft swelling spots and it’s on fire

My tattoo is just finishing up peeling, and has a ball like lump under parts where there was a lot of shading done. Advice?

I've had my ankle tattoo for 48 hours and my ankle [not the tattoo, the actual ankle] and foot are super swollen today. It hurts and I'm nervous. I'm hoping it's just because it's a lower extremity, all of my tattoos are on my arms and back, this is a first on my legs/ankle.

Mine has always been hot in the days after it’s been done so not necessarily heat means infection every time.

Okay... I know FOR A FACT my tattoo artist is extremely meticulous with cleansing, covering everything with plastic wrap, sanitizing...

But, first he used Black, light blue, dark blue and white... All the light blue got pretty bad and my body rejected it.
We waited 5 months, ordered new inks, he changed the kind of "needle?" To a thicker one...
Today is day 3 and again is getting pretty red and the area has fever.. but only the blue parts, we added some red and that area is doing great...
So, I'm guessing it's an allergy to blue ink (even though we tested it in my arm with no reaction)... I'm clueless!

Can sea salt help with daily moisture? It looks nice and everything. I’ve been having it for like 2 months.

i got my tattoo a week ago. i don’t have much redness anymore and ofc there’s the black flakey scabs, but in that there’s also kind of a greenish yellow ish small scabs in the mix. everything else seems to be normal for the healing process (not much redness, no heat or anything). should those sections with the off color flaking/scabbing be concerning

Great stuff man!
I got a new tattoo approximately 30 days ago.

It’s healing very nicely, however there is a small part that has like 4 dots that seem to be raised.

Do you think it will flatten out, considering it’s steak healing and it’s only been a month.
