There may have been a man named Jesus around whom early Christians developed their legends. But the miracle working son of God Jesus never existed. The idea of Jesus dying for our sins was taken from earlier so-called "pagan" religions. When ancient people were experiencing difficult times they would make a sacrifice (kill an animal) to whatever god they believed in. In particularly desperate times they would even resort to sacrificing children, even a child of their king. The idea was the more valuable the object sacrificed the more likely their god would be impressed and ease their suffering. Christianity took this idea but instead of the son of a king substituted the son of God himself, for what could be more valuable than that?

I imagine that if (and that's a big "if") he ever existed, the character as described in the bible is undoubtedly an amalgamation of other mythical figures.

What bothers me is Jesus after baptism knew "everything" Matthew 3:16-17 but wrote down NOTHING!

It doesn't matter to me whether he existed or not, it's still a load of hogwash, however, I hope he didn't exist because that's is such a cruel thing to do to a child by telling the kid that he's the son of god and the savior of mankind. Child abuse is a horrible thing.

A figure like Jesus, if he were real would have copious numbers of records about him produced. And there is a decent chance that some of those records would have survived all this time. So where are the records for Jesus‽
