I wondered what her answer would be for a long time. Well, here it is! .... Also, since so many somehow missed her conclusion, obvious from the comments, she thinks there was probably a guy. I also might add, she's not giving some exhaustive answer to this question. We we're just recording a YouTube video and her time was very limited.

I've seen recent defenders of David Falk try to slam her for being a Mythicist (as if this is a derogatory slant). She is obviously not a mythicist and this is here for the record.

In case you're wondering about the misogyny statement, this link is a good start. Dr. Dan McClellan defends her from false statements made by Dr. David Falk "Egyptologist".

There really was guy back then who was thought to be the "messiah". His real name was Brian. Monty Python did a totally non-fiction film about him that tells the whole story.

No scholar, but I've long believed someone existed within the Jewish community that tried to reform their beliefs and since that was a threat to their established power it as rejected. They clearly preferred Barrabas who wasn't an ethical reformer in any way, he was totally on board with the consensus of Jewish belief of rebellion against Rome. Rome occupied the area and the people were taxed by Rome and the Priests. I'd guess the whole purpose of Paul was to use his version of Christianity to get support of Jewish interests. The story around the man was severely hyped. Do you believe Jesus walked on water? It's simply a shit test to determine who's aligned with the cult. You can question a man, you can't question the god they created. They needed a god and they created it.

Just wanna point out, that just because someone criticises a woman, doesn’t automatically make them a misogynist. It depends on what the criticism actually is.

Dear lord. Do you guys actually analyze other "myths" other than Jesus?

There were many fake messiahs that period. There is even a map of places where all these fake messiahs appeared (google it). Jesus, I think, then, was just lucky that Paul has heard of him and catalyzed the ideology. Otherwise, he would have been forgotten just as those fake messiahs we all do not know of.

I can attest, that book is ahMAZing, she is hard hitting, and direct about what most are apparently uncomfortable discussing.

I'm glad she mentioned John the Baptist. It would not have made sense for anyone to invent that Jesus was baptised by JtB. That's something the author of Mark probably felt necessary to include between it was likely common knowledge that Jesus had taken over JtB's ministry after JtB was killed.

Then there's the fact that Paul mentioned meeting Jesus' brother James and get into an argument with him. That's another thing Paul wouldn't have made up since it makes him look bad that the people in the church in Jerusalem (his "Super Apostles" he mocked) didn't like him.

When two parties are in a discussion and one makes a claim that the other disputes, the one who makes the claim typically has a burden of proof to justify or substantiate that claim, especially when it challenges a perceived status quo. This is also stated in Hitchens's razor, which declares that "what may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence." Carl Sagan proposed a related criterion – "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" – which is known as the Sagan standard.
Is the claim about Jesus extraordinary? Yes. Is the evidence for Jesus extraordinary? No.

Where are these misogynists? I keep hearing about it but I have no idea where it's happening or what they're saying.

The real benefit of watching MythVision interviews is to learn how incredibly different (often opposite) cultural values, sensibilities, logic, morality, knowledge, etc. were back then. Not merely foreign, dated, or primitive. Thus believable and credible acceptance of reality, basic existence, identity, and social relationships are nearly incomprehensible to us. Yet, unless we understand their viewpoint on the world completely, we can't possibly explain why human beings would act and think that way.

25 years between the alleged execution reported in the same fictional gospels and Paul's writings is a short period of time? And this period is a causal connection for the existence of someone? I didn't get it...

This channels obsession with mythicism is a bit silly tbh. I don’t see any reason to believe that it’s more likely that Jesus didn’t exist than that he did, and no reason to believe that the consensus (even just among atheist biblical scholars and historians) will ever move towards mythicism.

It just is more probable that he was a real historical figure than not.
