out of all the people hes fought, i feel that this character is the only one who has respected him the most despite being an actual political enemy.

The moment Ip Man rolls up his sleeves, you are toast.

Love how Ip Man's fighting style changes over the course of 4 movies, which was intentionally designed by the film crew. In Ip Man 1 he was alot more direct, fierce, liked using high kicks. By the 4th movie he relied more on technique than force as he was no longer as powerful physically. Top notch figth choreography!

When the main character starts having flashbacks of training montages, pack it up

The way he pulled him back up to say "nope, I'm not done yet."☠️

The rapid fire punch Ip Man does is always my favorite part of his fights.

I love that he knows he can go one further and wants to but also has the discipline and awareness to know he has won and to simply leave it at that

I counted 67 hits and missed a lot of punches, that’s a 80 piece combo. The pull back was brutal, you getting this finishing.

Badass. That general had a lot of strength but was way too aggressive which led him to have his strikes read easily and redirected without much effort

Defeating Japanese generals seems to be the ultimate challenge in many Kung Fu movies 😁

The most important fight in the series. The most impressive performance from IP Man when the stakes were at the highest. China vs Japan.

When he pulls him back in for like 3 more strikes like "I could go on, but I won't" sends shivers up my spine every time.

Ip man fought with rage here unlike all his other fights.. Japan had invaded China, he lost everything. hes pride/chinese pride was shattered. There was nothing else to lose...he utterly dismantled the Japanese general

I'm a big fan of all the films (doesn't mean I also don't have criticisms). I keep coming back to this fight out of all of the fights Ip Man has been in, because this one always stands out. In most of Ip's fights, he stops once his opponent has been disabled or incapacitated. This is not the case here. I don't think there's another fight in the entire series where he continues to strike his opponent long after his opponent is incapable of fighting back or defending himself. Fighting for revenge, with sheer emotion that looks to include anger is not a principle we ever see Ip fight by. This fight was personal. He wanted to show the General all the pain he has caused, use his fist to deal justice for the lives he has taken. The General and his soldiers have starved, beaten, and killed members of his community and threatened his own family. The lives of two friends who die as a direct result of this General's actions or his subordinates is everything we needed to know about why this fight was going to be different. I often asked "why go through all those extra hits and not simply take the General's life?". I think the General knew even before the final, withheld strike, that Ip could take his life any time he wanted. Ip knew that forcing him to live in dishonor was a fate much worse than death.

That last sequence because I studied medicine I can tell you those blows were th3 most disrespectful aspect of the bout. He could have knocked him out. Instead, he inflicted some of the most destructive shots meticulously in spots that would cause catastrophic injury, but that couldn't lead to immediate death so that he’d suffer!
