Homemade Naan Recipe

Perfectly soft and chewy, this homemade Naan Bread recipe comes together quickly and easily. All you need are a few simple ingredients to make this buttery flatbread. Traditionally, naan is made in a clay Tandoori oven, but this homemade naan recipe is made in a cast-iron skillet to get that iconic smokey taste and golden brown blister spots.

I'm excited to share some tips from my amazing friend Maneet Chauhan on how to get a great homemade version without a tandoor. She has a wonderful book out called Chaat, which you definitely need to check out!

I used to watch every video of yours and try out the recipes together with my grandmother. Sadly, she passed away a few months ago due to a chronic illness.. She was a big fan of yours. She was in awe at your copper pans! Always used to ask me if you have "cooked anything new recently". As she didn't speak English I was always pausing and translating whatever you said.
I wanted to thank you for everything. We cherished and enjoyed every recipe of yours that we made.

I'm a Pakistani and naan is our food staple. The naans you have made are very good looking

Cool recipe. I have a couple of hacks though. 1. Use baking powder instead of yeast and you can cook them right away. 2. Add some atta or flour to the butter when you cook it and it will grab all the milk solids and soak the water content. The ghee will not burn like yours did and you won’t need to skim which can be wasteful. You can also sprinkle some sugar on the separated floor and milk solids and eat it. It’s amazing.

I'm a native Naan eater and this was so so so so much fun watching you make naan 😄😍 I too just recently found out this way of flipping the pan over, it just gives the best results and the most beautiful results, I LOVE potato stuffed Naan 😋

I loved how you explained about not adding the salt and why, also about kneading the dough to work up the gluten. It is true that sometimes we don't want to mix very much in such foods like cookies or pancakes.

I love your kitchen and I’m totally envious… I worked as a waitress in an Indian restaurant years ago, and ate a lot of fresh made naan! I will try your recipe! I only wish I had a gas stove too… 🥰❤️😋🤤

I've made these twice now and both times i didnt have any yogurt, so i used double cream one time and full fat milk the second time, and just added a little less milk than the full yogurt measurement. They turned out great both times and had the bubbles too, yum 😋
Thank you for the recipe.

My grandma would make Fry bread when we were little. On the farm she always had bread rising. She would pinch off some dough and fry it up for a snack for my sister and myself. With fresh butter. Great memories. Buttermilk was always on the counter which we refused to drink so it was well water. I will pick up yogurt tonight and make naan bread with your recipe. Thanks for all the great recipes.

This recipe came out wonderful, I've had gluten sensitivity and had been gluten free until recently experimenting with Einkorn, an ancient wheat, which doesn't pose the problems I get with modern highly hybridized wheat. I didn't have any yogurt but make kefir and always have that on hand, so I just made some adjustments to get the right dough consistency. Many thanks!

OMG I was literally just looking for some naan (been obsessed with Indian food lately), closed Uber Eats and came on YouTube and saw this. Now I’ll make my own. You are the best 🥰

I absolutely LOVE when you cook “normal” food. I came for the baking… and well, stayed for the baking… and adore everything else.

Thanks for introducing me to my kitchen, John! 💞

I love your recipes thank you for your channel.

A TIP from India from the lady of the house. She cooked the nans directly on the stove on a low flame. She didn't use a pan at all. They inflated a lot. She cooked few to show me and I cooked the rest for the family dinner. The nans where delicious.
