amusingly years ago i had a 55 gallon tank with a 10 gallon trickle filter sump i made... and my ammonia stayed 0, my nitrite stayed zero, and my nitrates always were below 20ppm. i did have to thin the plants sometimes and top off water.

Thank you very much. This is so helpful and I wrote everything down until it’s engraved in my head. I do have a question. We have well water on blue slate, no rusty taste, very clean and clear. Our original house has a water softener but when we built an addition we didn’t add one which is is the hard water in my tanks, I test tank water twice weekly which are always high alkaline . The pH has lowered 8.0 even after adding Seachem Neutral Regulator which is supposed to adjust to 7.0. How can I lower the alkaline. I’ve even used bottled spring water. Would the softened water be better ? How can I lower the alkalinity and pH ? Thank you so much.

My fish tank water levels for no2 and no3 are very high, I’ve done many water changes and the levels stay the same, I’ve put in a live plant but still isn’t doing anything, all my fish seem fine but, no signs of stress, what do I do?

I have a 76L fish tank with 7 fish, everything was good when I got the fish until I started feeding bloodworms and the water went all weird and start getting brown algae on the glass, tested the water level and no2 and no3 are very high, I am really concerned
