Have you ever wanted to test your water to see if you could find out what is going wrong in the aquarium? Well I got a great video using API's master test kit as well as testing the Calcium and KH.

Kit can be found here;

I found out that the API 5mil printed mark on the vials are loose. I started using a syringe to measure 5mil to fill the vials.

Love your content Brock! Question, you usually quote a salinity of 1.023-1.025. About 32-34 ppm if I'm not mistaken. BRS talks about aiming for 1.026 or 35 ppm. Curious why you stay just below that?😃

Hey Brock every time I test my ammonia I get a cloudy white with a tint of green but doesn’t match any of the colors. I’ve done water changes added more bacteria and a stabilizer once a day and it hasn’t changed at all.

Hey Brock i have a question and you seem like you know your stuff, i just got my new 29g tank set up about a week and a half ago and wanted to do a fishless cycle so i put some bio spira and dr Tim’s ammonia in there and I waited about a week to test it and my ph and nitrate are ok but my ammonia is around .5 and and my nitrite is is at 1.0 they have been like that for a few days now. I did a 25 percent water change and put more bio spira a day ago, it helped my nitrite go down to .5 but my ammonia is the same. This is my first aquarium ever so I’m kind of in a pickle with what I should do? Also I cleaned my glass with a magnet scrubber a few days ago and i found out bacteria stays on the glass do you think that could have affected it? Sorry for the long paragraph

Hey Brook I've heard mixed things about the API tests, I've got some myself for a couple of things, I was wondering what's your thoughts on them? Do you use them regularly and how accurate do you think they are?
Thank you

I don't understand why ppl always try to 0 out Nitrates and phosphates. Having a lot is just as bad as having none. Ppl should be thought find the right balance for your tank

Hello Brock... I got a question about the API nitrate test.. I only use the API for nitrate testing.. it says to fill 5 ml water in test tube which should be equal to the white line marked.. but if I fill the test tube with 5 ml water from a syringe the water level surpasses the white marked line. Which one should I take as a guide, 5 ml syringe or the white marked line

You need to read the instructions again as you are not testing correctly. The Ammonia test for sure. Love the show though.

Those API are garbage and are horrible for beginners, they give very inconsistent readings which makes it harder to Reef. Once I upgraded my testing equipment to salifert and red sea, I've gotten way more stable week to week with peramiters...
