I had to look up "white spirits." It is a British description. It is the same as turpentine or mineral spirits in the states. I will try this. When I started repairing trains in a hobby shop some 50 years ago, I was taught to only use denatured alcohol, or grain alcohol poisoned to make it unsuitable to drink. In some cases, Electric contact cleaner could be used. We always made sure that the cleaner would not react with the plastic, or paints. Your solution is more economical. Thank you.

Try Servisol contact cleaner. It can be sprayed onto the commutator whilst running. Geoff. W.

I have an older Rivarossi Dreyfuss Hudson that is overheating. I'm thinking it needs an engine replacement. Now with your information it may not. I know from my experience with HO Scale slot cars that oil is a major enemy of the comutator.
