"Because if you were going to be some lame suburban dad why couldn't you have been that for me" this is the one that really gets me. Neil Patrick Harris' acting is just so perfect, you can really feel all the sorrow and despair in his voice and all the sadness and anger of being abandoned by his dad.

This is scene is to me the most touching one as we can all relate to it in some way, whether it is living the same experience by not really having a father or not at all, or on the other hand by having the best dad out there and not being able to visualize life without him.

lily's confession on the rooftop, always manages to break me, feeling trapped in what you love is the worst feeling ever

This needed the 'Ted alone in the bar wanting the extra 45 days' scene.

The moment that still haunts me, is the ‘look around Ted, you’re all alone’ scene. The transition from the full bar, everyone having a good time, friends dancing, to that depressing loneliness and Ted just sitting there staring at a single ticket.

I always loved the way they handled Robin finding out she can’t have kids. For someone that never wanted kids and stuck to that her whole life to be told you’ll never be able to anyway has got to be confusing. She wasn’t just sad she was mostly confused that she was sad. Something that was so expected of women she already decided she didn’t want to do and yet here’s she’s told she couldn’t anyway. She felt broken, and even though she didn’t see them in her future it shook up her own perspective of herself and what she could do.

They never forced her to suddenly start wanting kids because of this but they let her grieve something so delicate that changes a lot about how you see the world.

The scene Lily said she wished she wasn't a mom makes my heart break, how hard and bad she must have felt to say something like that. How bad she must have felt after saying that out loud, that was something very real that no one never actually acknowledged. 😭

When Lily announce that Marshall's father is dead my heart broken every time and I can't stop crying.

Robin's infertility, Lily's confession of sometimes wishes she wasn't a mother, Marshall's finding out about his dad death, Barney's speech to his dad about not being there for him, and Ted's hearing his wife talking about mom's missing their daughter's marriage.
All the heart-wrenching moment from each of them was about parental things.

"I couldnt see more than few feet in front, but i was content knowing my dad was driving" That sentence broke me, as someone whos spent countless hours in the back of a car. many of those late at night next to my brother, while my dad drove with my mom in the passenger seat. WHen i know think back at the happiest times of my life, those tiny moments are it. Going to sleep staring out a window at stars wizing on by.

The Robin episode where she finds out she can’t have kids is one of the best in the series. They handled it so well

Not only is this a great way to approach life, but I love what it says about being a parent. When you grow up, you realize your parents are just people with flaws like anyone else, but as a kid, they seem like super heroes who always make you feel safe. Good parents know their children crave that safety, and provide it as best they can, even if they're scared themselves.

The scene with Lily breaks my heart. That’s how I felt after my first baby was born. I was supposed to be happy but I hated how being a mother changed my life. Luckily that feeling passed.

Even with all these really sad scenes, I'm actually jealous that the gang has each other to open up to and to support each other in the worst of their times. Not everyone has a close knit of friends like that.

This is actually one of the reasons why HIMYM is such a special series regardless of its genre. The story did not turn a blind eye on the downside moments of an individual; which to me makes this realistic and relatable. I love it when at the last part of the last season, it was implied that they don't meet that often anymore especially Robin. But when they do, they make sure to make it special. And that really happens to every circle of friends we've met and bonded with in a particular time of our lives.
