CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Gary (Vince Vaughn) and Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) run into each other on the street and catch up in a civil manner.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A once-loving Chicago couple whose happily-ever-after quickly turned into a never-again finds their crumbling romance complicated when both parties refuse to move out of the pair's recently purchased condo. The Break-Up is a romantic comedy that starts where all the others end. The future once looked promising for thirtysomething couple Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) and Gary (Vince Vaughn), but lately it seems like a series of increasingly petty and intolerable squabbles have snuffed any semblance of romance in their relationship. Their confrontation endlessly fueled by mean-spirited suggestions of revenge tactics from friends and family and their stubborn refusal to budge resulting in an excruciating stalemate, Brooke and Gary ultimately decide to spitefully stick it out as hostile roommates until the weaker party eventually admits defeat. As the competition to drive one another out grows increasingly intense and outrageous, however, Brooke eventually comes to the realization that she's not fighting for possession of the condominium as much as she is fighting to salvage her relationship with the man she once viewed as the love of her life.

You remember why you liked that person before the break up. The first time you met, the good times. As soon as you try and rekindle the relationship you remember why it ended.

This scene is trying to show how people act AFTER they break up and how they treat each other. If they acted that way towards each other while they were together they could have worked . They only treated each other nicely with respect and care after wards. Sad, but it happens all the time!

Like seeing an old friend that you don’t really intend to keep in touch with. I just love Jennifer’s acting in this movie. Her facial expressions are perfect.

um... I don't think they were going to get back together at all. This scene was like closure. Perfectly realistic and heart breaking.

She was perfect in this scene. Her voice, her mannerisms, facial expressions. She had moved on with her life.

Its almost refreshing to see movies where the couple simply doesnt work out. Even giving it their best effort in the end turns out to not work and sometimes that just happens not everyone ends up back together.

When I was in a long term relationship and watched this, I wanted them to get back together. However after I ended that relationship, I understood everything Brooke felt.

This is maybe the saddest ending to a romantic dramedy I have ever seen.

Just because you love someone and there's chemistry, doesn't mean they are right for you. Life.

You know you are an adult when you stop thinking that they will end up back together and this is actually a closure for both of them.

The pain in his voice. The love in his eyes. The respect he has for her. Wanted to hug but feeling embarassed. Knowing he lost the best women in the world but will live forever in his heart. We all have lessons to learn and move on to be a better person. And they depart with good wishes and smile. These scene will remain in my memory for long long time.

Sometimes people come into our lives to teach us how to be a better person and that it.

I didn't like this ending at first but now that I see it again I really appreciate its vulnerability it's honesty. They definitely do still care deeply about each other and good chemistry. As we can see they dated for a while after making this film. This is a very well made film and its brutal honest intensity of the difficulties in relationships.

Those long pauses are so easy for me to relate to when dealing with an ex.

I recently saw an "ex" and even though we both moved on, the look they give you... really shows it meant something. it's almost like while they look at you, it's like you never went through a break up. i think if anything it just shows that there is still love and care. this scene just reminded me of that, the way he looks at her isn't just like a friend telling you a story, within the eyes, you can just tell there was a strong bond and a love.

I remember watching this movie when I was like 13 or 14 and I actually hated it because they didn't end up back together but now as a 29 year old adult, I realize why they didn't. Both had a lot of growing up to do especially Vince's character and this is how a real life breakup scenario would play out. This scene was closure in the end and still a happy ending even if they didn't get back together. Most couples wouldn't in real life. It shows what people go through in a real breakup and how in the end they are able to move on from the situation and remember the good times they had together even if they weren't each others person in the end.

Just some break up trivia....this scene was completely adlibbed. There was a script but both Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn didn't like the feel of it so they decided to do it cold which is why when you really watch it, you know its true. When they started to talk at the same time the director wanted to redo it, but, they said absolutely not!!! Such an intense scene in the movie and it worked!!!

Sort of like the ending of THE WAY WE WERE. Two people who still have feelings for each other, but at the same time, realize it's over. Neither of them will ever call the other for that boat ride. That's life.

This is a very happy ending. I really like it that they didn't turn the ending into some stupid silly unrealistic scene where everyone lives happily ever after. Its implied that they get back together and have a better relationship than before. This ending left the door open and its up the the viewers imaginations to figure out if they get back together or not. Although, it is heavily implied that they do (both smiling at each other with that awesome soundtrack).

I think this ending was very much about reconciliation. They broke up, they went out into the world and changed and became new people. Then, when they saw each other again, they realised that the feelings were still there. But this time, there was potential for something more. Something better, because they had both changed enough to make way for an entirely new relationship with each other.

That's why they seem so excited to make plans with each other and why they look back, because they can feel something good is going to happen and that they're both ready for it now.
