No need to worry about plugging this EV in - it runs on petrol power! It's the all-new Nissan X-Trail e-Power hybrid electric SUV.

We've just driven the new-generation 2023 Nissan X-Trail, including the brand's answer to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid - and it's a pretty intriguing approach.

Is it the right tech for today? Using a petrol engine to power electric motors, it certainly isn't conventional, but it is a novel approach to the notion of range anxiety - when was the last time you couldn't find a service station on your journey?

Tung Nguyen travelled to Slovenia for the launch of the new-generation 2023 Nissan X-Trail, and spent most of his time in the range-topping petrol-powered EV e-Power models. But he also learned the full pricing and specifications of the new model, plus what buyers can expect in terms of fuel efficiency, range, safety tech and what the new model is like to drive.

All the details can be found in his written story below, but Tung's comprehensive video review gives you the stuff you need to know.

How many safety features did you miss!?
Cyclest detection, pedestrian detection, motion detection, pro-pilot with speed sign recognition, rear auto braking etc.
If you're going to review a car please make sure you show all it's features as you missed so many

Part reason for Toyotas success in hybrid technology is that it is available through out the range not just the range topper not everyone wants heated seats and sun roof

My brother hired a RAV 4 Hybrid in WA and underwhelmed..
Still bought a 2020 RAV 4 Conventional as a second car .
Was looking at a QASHQAI E Power but they are delayed till the end of the year.

Test drove an X Trail E Force as they call the twin engine E Power, and was blown away by the driving experience, design and equipment. Better value than the QASHQAI E Power. Signed the order immediately. 3 month wait.
An economical EV driving experience without having to plug in. Brilliant.

This technology is not new, see Owens Magnetic 1915, but I believe this is the way to go.

Where is the review for Corolla Cross? That would be one of the most sold cars in Australia, because it's a Toyota Corolla, now it's also an SUV. I can already see the car on the road. So, I was expecting to see a review of it already. It's more important than the launches by the cheap Chinese brands, and any EV launch(as we are still not fully ready for it).

So I think you have it backwards. The rear of the X trail is 2018 Rogue. The rest of the design is good looking. It's a refined 2022 Rogue. Nice to see it will note come E power. The price is the draw back. I'm guessing the plug in under pinnings is from Mitsubishi.
That being said, where does it leave the soon to come Ariya in terms of price and market share

Finding a outlet every 500k isn’t hard maybe as often as putting fuel in this.

I think the choice is easy. If you want a hybrid, get a RAV4, if you want a PHEV, get the Outlander, if you want an EV, get the Tesla Model Y. If the local Toyota ran out of stock, get the Havel H6 Hybrid.

Needs to have lower entry point/price. Otherwise it’s fuel savings are completely negated by initial outlay and associated higher interest repayments.

But still cheaper and eco friendly than running a full electric car.... just think when you charge a car what the equivalent would be to have running in your home...

Ac for a yeah ten fridges running for a week...

Take that in to account and full electric isn't the way forward...

It's not hybrid. Its EV with own charger/generator. A hybrid is mix engine and semi ev.. But i love this new Nissan tech
