Ashwaghanda always gives me serious joint pain. I'm 30, healthy and fit and I feel like a 90 year old man when I take it. Even before I ever heard of nightshades, lectins and inflammation it has affected me, so I know it's not psychosomatic.

You should point out from very beginning that this advice for healthy people, you keep saying not enough studies, ignoring and invalidating pain of other who actually have inflammation from nightshades, I have psoriasis and I flare up over night with nightshades, if you don’t acknowledge that there people who suffer greatly from these foods, your “funny” statements are pure ignorance

So here's my problem and not that you will reply or anything but I was on a strict "Carnivore" diet for a week and on the weekend, my kids begged for spaghetti to which I gave in (Gluten free noodles used). Within hours and on into the morning my stomach was upset and I had back pain and headaches all day. I felt terrible and the only thing that i had eaten was the spaghetti sauce. Help me understand!

People tend to forget that our grand parents or great grandparents depending on how old you are, only ate fruit like nightshades once a year when it was in season. We did not eat these foods year round. Our course all modern fruits have been hybridized to produce fruit year round. That doesn’t make it good for us, to have these as a “balanced diet” as you claim. A seasonal diet would be far more appropriate. Pretty much all summer berries and other fruits now are bred for size and sugar content. They contain so much fructose they are really not healthy for us anymore.

Tomato 100% gives me joint pain. My whole thing is that some plants from that family can be better tolerated by some, while others, not so much. Simple as that. Let’s not just brush off peoples intolerances as just anomalies, as they can also be puzzle pieces to many who can’t seem to heal certain ailments.

My GI tract bleeds when I eat nightshades. Doesn't when I don't. Took me years and years and years to make the connection. I thought I had something else, like diverticulitis. So... she is wrong. Every "body" is different. She ought to be a little more open-minded. She is hardly the only one to speak so confidently on something she doesn't know. Actually, doctors are far, far worse. "Here, take a pill, you probably have diverticulitis." Thanks for not asking me to take a pill, I guess.

Green peppers were my craving during pregnancy. No prob eating 2 or more a day. Then my baby had colic, so I cut them out and she was mostly better (I didn't know about the nightshade family so I still had potatoes and tomatoes).
Fast forward to last week when we ate my mom's stuffed peppers thinking it would be ok. Her joints were sore and her memory was foggy for days. I had asthma and burps for 3 days. When I ate tomato I noticed similar yet less seve symptoms. Then I found out about nightshades.

I remember when I was told I had adhd, the psychologist told me to avoid nightshade vegetables. I really didn’t think much of it because I was in a bit of a shock when I was given my diagnosis. He told him it causes inflammation in the brain. I still have potatoes and tomatoes but I am allergic to tomatoe grapes so I don’t eat those. Lately I’ve been wanting to find out if I have a sensitivity to other types of tomatoes. Gluten isn’t good for me, neither dairy. I’m getting tired of having to eliminate food! If I have to eliminate tomatoes then that means no pizza and pasta and tacos and nachos and dishes where I use them 😭

It lacks human research, that doesn't mean we should just ignore the claims and everyone start eating nightshades, that means we should get more research going. I can only find one study validating the existence of nightshade allergy, I don't think that's okay :/ regardless of what the studies find, we SHOULD be researching it, especially with so many people reporting perceived improvement in quality of life and pre-existing conditions (read in this comment section alone)
I would also love for nightshade to get some media traction. I've recently discovered I have an allergy to the stuff, but due to nobody knowing what they are, there's almost zero way for me to 100% avoid it. It would be similar to gluten: many you shouldn't stop eating gluten unless you have a problem with it, but before it was a fad diet, Celiacs had WAY less options when it came to safe foods!

Idkk, , , I came here to get some info about how I can better avoid it. There's next to no good resources about it. If they do mention nightshade allergy they say "it's VERY rare, and it's likely you don't have it! so keep eating them"... so what about the people who *do* have that allergy, and are perhaps reading your article for that reason :(
I've been getting all my info for this from blogs, which I feel pretty yucky about, since I like to get all my info from resources backed by science and studies.

Any nightshade allergy friends in the comment section? HMU~ lmk if you've found a brand that's good about allergen contamination that might have their eye on nightshades? thankys

Dr Gundry said if you peel and deseed your tomatoes, cucumbers etc they are ok for consumption. Pressure cooking your beans. Lentils and legumes which will eliminate lectins

You have no right to say that your health equals ours. They may not happen to everyone, and you are not everyone. but a systematic analytical memory of an immune system that you do not possess if you do not experience the pseudobiological observations. Some people just know better what their body can tolerate than a person who doesn't know what it's like to be very intolerant and sensitive to food. It is not established in your theory book but being open to evolution could teach you something instead of putting everything aside as a fable.

My theory is, Gundry is trying to sell pressure cookers.

Most conventional dietary advice is based on low quality observational studies. Why are dieticians still promoting carbs for people with t2D?

The foods aren't pro-inflammatory for the vast majority of people . IN fact they are some of the best foods you could possibly eat, next to cruciferous vegetables.

In other words, don't eat nightshades, they are not good for a lot of people.
