Tor is obviously better, because you can go on the private web(calling it the dark web sounds scary).

Tor is better for privacy. But it's really slow. So i usually use vpn with firefox. I think most of cases vpn with firefox guarantees your privacy enough.

I haven't seen a lot of coverage on i2p, using eepsites and staying away from the clearnet.

Awesome collab! Can you also discuss TOR over VPN and VPN over TOR in the future? Like a comparison, is it good, how to correctly do those?

These are the only reasons (that I can think of) why you should use a VPN, instead of the TOR network:

1) Speed. VPNs will be faster than the TOR network. If your VPN service is not faster than the TOR network, then that should be straightened out with your VPN service provider.

2) Your privacy needs are important, but not excessively so. There is no way to confirm any claims made by a VPN service. Also, unless you are an expert at international law, you have no way to really know whether or not some server in some county has reciprocal, jurisdictional agreements with your own country. So if a court orders that VPN service to keep logs, and that court includes a gag order about saving logs and monitoring, etc, then you could be monitored, etc, and never know (or get a knock on your door if/when caught doing something illegal -- which is not something you should ever do).

3) Your understanding of all of your choices is over your head, and you do not realize the risks of using a VPN service.

4) The internet servers, that you wish to connect to, have blacklisted TOR exit nodes. So when you use TOR, you are not able to access some sites or services. If this is the case, then unless speed is important, I suggest that you use TOR to login to your VPN service. This will stop sites and services from seeing TOR, and will allow you to connect to wherever you want to connect.

But why go through TOR to connect to your VPN service?
This is a good idea, if you paid for your VPN service, anonymously.
If you connect directly to your VPN service, then the VPN company knows who you are.
If you connect to your VPN service via TOR, then the VPN company does not know who you are (unless you did something like pay with your credit card, or signed up directly from your computer and they have your IP address associated with your account). But if you paid for your VPN service, anonymously, and did so via TOR, then the use of your VPN service via TOR will keep you anonymous and will side-step internet sites/services from blocking you.

Should you ever go from your VPN service to TOR to the outside world?
I can think of no reason to ever do that. I can also think of reasons why that would be bad.

Cheers!

The best part is getting a VPN ad before watching this.
