A deflagration is not a detonation. Only when the flame propagates at supersonic speeds is it considered a detonation, and that propagation of the flame front is what causes the shock wave.

Because deflagration is not detonation. It's a matter of propagation velocity. Detonations are characteristic of high explosives (velocities above Mach 1).

The explosion had enough ambient ingredients to explode through and so it exploded slower and didn't cause as much displacement as larger faster explosions

"how could there be an explosion and no shockwave ?" The answer was that wasn't an explosion. The only difference betwin an explosion and a deflagration is that in an explosion the volume augmentation moves faster than the speed of sound. If the energy propagate through liquid droplets it's much slower (but not in every cases, like the thermobaric weapons that uses this principle but was specifically designed to either vaporises targets on close range, or kill anybody up to 500 meters deep into a bunker, as the shockwave is massive.

So... Does that mean an explosion deflegration wave doesn't produce sound? Because sound travels over air and if there is no shockwave, you wouldn't hear the sound. Right?

Deflargation is just slow enough to not exceed the speed od sound. It's mostly girl dependent. Then temperature as all chemical reaction, and shape of air fuel mix, where in tunnels deflargation may speed up to explosion thx to turbulent mixing. Complex stuff as everything if you see to it.

What event is this referring? Is he saying a deflgration wave is used to counter the resultant shockwave of an explosion? Makes no sense

He’s not taking into account how explosives work. My younger brother makes explosives in the military and there are a lot of things that determine a shock wave on an explosive.
