If a combustible mixture of gasses is ignited with insufficient energy for detonation to occur, does the expansion solution of the reaction Hugoniot deflagration suggest that the flame speed starts at zero and accelerates along the reaction Hugoniot curve to the flame speed computed in an earlier lecture (that was slowed by the activation energy)? Is this flame speed less than the maximum velocity of deflagration implied by the expansion solution of the reaction Hugoniot? If this limited flame speed is larger than the maximum reaction Hugoniot velocity of deflagration, then does that imply additional conducted heat loss and that the flame eventually extinguishes?
