um... their called Merchant chest becausr the contests of the chest are tne inventory of a merchant, funfact if you ADD gold to the chest it raises the base gold of the corresponding merchant

All these chests are inventory chests so most of them belong to kajit traders that go outside cities which is were the chests are most commanly found but the one under whiterun is the inventory chest of the companions smith.

The fourth chest in Whiterun you can get to a much easier way. All you have to do is get a platter, go up to Jorvaskr. On the side of the building opposite the entrance to the Underforge, drop the platter and then hold it up to the wall and sprint toward it until you glitch through the wall and under Jorvaskr. Turn around and walk beneath the Underforge and you'll see the chest just to your right. Not sure if that makes sense but I can't find a video on it.

SO... I found out how to make the khajit merchant chests respawn VERY fast. This worked for me at the dawnstar chest and I'm sure it will work EASIER at the solitude chest. The khajit merchant needs to be open for business in the town where the chest you're looting is for this to work. Go and loot the chest for whatever you want, then go over to the khajit merchant, make a quicksave, then KILL the khajit merchant. Load the quicksave file, talk to the merchant, then go check the chest. It should be refilled. Then repeat.... You can do this to get a shitload of gold, gems, and valuable potions/poisons early in the game and very fast.

This is a big nostalgia trip. I remember finding these chests with j'zargo and getting as much gold as i can to buy a house

The First three are khajit chests and you can tell by the skooma and moon sugar in them. They will not spawn if a khajit trader in not in that town. The fourth one is the chest for the black smith in whiterun, and the fifth is the chest for the mage in the blue place. Every store and trader has these, but most are impossible to reach

For the one I whiterun there is a much easier way. Go to the circle with the plants and then go to the house across from it. Glitch into the ground

There's a easier one for Whiterun, it takes you to the Skyforge exit the city follow the left wall one of the rocks touching the wall it will have the rock texture like all the others but you can walk through it

the fact that the whiterun glitch is still there makes me laugh, they just painted the game with new paint and sold it again with no touch ups whatso ever.

Unofficial Patch removes access to the merchant chests

I'm not sure if anyone in the comments went in depth about these chests. Each chest is associated with a merchants inventory. Each chest also resets every 48 hours but only if you talk to the corresponding merchant. A good suggestion is to completely buy out the merchant so your speech level goes up. Go to the chest and you can get all of your spent gold back. As a side not the chest in whiterun corresponds with the weapon smith right above it.

Getting to the skyforge chest is easiest if you use a platter. Press a platter against the rock that the skyforge is on and run in to the platter. It works best on flat surfaces and if the bottom of the platter is facing the player (if you manage having the bottom facing you, going through walls is usually very easy and very smooth). I've been doing that ever since I found out that you can use a platter to faze through walls. Also, using platters offers the ability to find the chests in actual stores as well finding the Do Not Delete (skyrims version of the paint brush in oblivion)
