I was browsing through a lot of videos but none seem to solve the problem I had. So I decided to make this short video once I found out how FBX models from blender can be imported to unity with the correct rotation and scale.

i found solution: i saw that unity is doing something automatically to rotation, so what you can do -
1. once ur model is ready in blender, use apply transform and make sure everythings in place.
2. now rotate model to -90 on x axis
3. apply rotation so now all rotation is 0.
4. now add 90 degree to x, so it come back to it correct rotation.
5. then Don't apply rotation to it and export it.
6. problem solved.
note: there will be 90 degree on x in your model when u export, so when unity do it things it will not be affected.

Hello, I enjoy your content your videos are really useful. Unfortunately, I have a blender model that goes upside down when i export it to unity. I did everything you did in the video, y up -z forward, FBX all and FBX unit scale, transforms, bake animation, NLA, all..., I used the same settings with the other blender models that had the right orientation and I checked that the orientation in blender was the same.I have tried everything that they tell you to do online. I cant apply transforms because it turns into a disaster. The animation doesn't play in the game despite it being in the animator. The weird thing is that the animation does play in the inspector with the right orientation. It has the wrong orientation in the image that you click on to see the inspector. there is a message in the inspector saying : "Root contains position and rotation curves" . I don''t know what to do and Im confused. Thank you for reading this if you did. Sincerely.

Thank you very much!!!! I searched half a youtube for answer. And in this short form, I found what is the essence and what is needed by the majority of newbies, and what the other "experts" turned into an encyclopedia and turned into something that was incredibly complicated and only confused the newcomers. Thank you!!!

For anyone having the -90 x axis rotation issue, in blender got to object mode, select your object, hit CTRL+A, select "all transforms", then set export setting to:
Apply Scalings: FBX All
Forward: Y Forward,
Up: Z Up
If that dosen't work rotate the objects origins by selecting the origins checkbox in the options dropdown the rotating the objects origins so that the Z is forward and the Y is up
hope that helps!

Hey, I have watched your videos over the past 8 months, while undertaking an MSc in Medical Visualization. I am currently in the middle of my thesis and have a problem in unity I just can't seem to resolve. I really hope you may help to find a resolution. I have imported models from Zbrush as FBX to unity but when I try to rotate them the model goes way off the screen, it works ok if I use a normal unity game object, but my models are not rotating on the correct, X, Y, Z coordinates. Please could you help, I hope you can help. Thanks in advance Sandie

This is exactly what I needed. I know this is a bit old now, but I would need to know how do you do to update the unity model directly form blender instead of reimporting it and building all the textures again.
