Telling the time in Germany

In Germany, we use the 24-hour-system to tell the time ... just because a day has 24 hours. In the English-speaking world, the 12-hour-system with ante and post meridiem is being used. Can you explain to me, why? Are you familiar with the 24-hour-system anyway?

Actually the "day" does not have 24 hours.
AM and PM is the sun's relationship with the meridian line.
"Hey guys, my system is so much better than your system, you guys are dumb for not using my system."

Or, maybe.
Different places use different systems because different places in the world developed systems of time differently.
