Could we say whatever time it is plus nachmittag or abend instead of the military form? As a side note, it is commonly used down here in Brazil as well, the military form I should say... Tschüss!

Can you just say "fünf nach drei" for 3:05, like do you need to say the "Uhr"?

Wann beginnt der Film? Um 18 Uhr. (When does the movie begin? At 6 pm) This is the standard way to use "um" ("Es ist um 18 Uhr" (It is at 6 pm) to tell what time it is is a regionalism and is not standard German unless you're asking for the time when something takes place). With time use "um" in German the same way you use "at" in English. My students like your videos.
